Bologna captain warns Milan ahead of final: “A completely different story”

Lorenzo De Silvestri spoke to the media after Bologna’s defeat to Milan, warning the latter that the Coppa Italia final will be a completely different game.

Bologna managed to take the lead last night as Riccardo Orsolini found the back of the net with a lovely strike. However, aside from that, they didn’t really create that much and mostly relied on their defending, in which the captain De Silvestri certainly played a part.

Milan eventually found a way through and clinched all three points convincingly, boosting their confidence ahead of the final. However, when speaking to Sky Italia (via MilanNews), De Silvestri stated that he isn’t too worried about the big game.

On the defeat…

“We made a few mistakes, the game seemed to be in our hands. In view of the Coppa Italia final, I’m not worried, Wednesday is a story in itself, a unique match. We need to reset, try to recover our energy, but Wednesday is a one-off match, a completely different story.”

On the final…

“Tonight I’ll go to sleep disappointed and angry, but there’s the pride of having brought a city and a club to the Coppa Italia final after 51 years. We have broken many records, but we are entering the final to win the trophy.”

It remains to be seen if yesterday’s win will end up playing a part, but as highlighted by De Silvestri and many others, the final will indeed be a different game. Nevertheless, having beaten the opponents in the game before can certainly not be seen as a bad thing for Milan.

  1. Yes, Leao will be available. If you leave free space behind defenders like you did in the last game it will be 5 goals for Milan.

    1. Might not be that different if De Silvestri is playing, the guy is a liability, he was exposed on every counter attack and players just ghost past him, yes he is passionate and fight till the end, but the guy is a relic, very confident of winning with him in defence

  2. I think Bologna and Lorenzo De Silvestri will get another piece of the humble pie on Wednesday. Everyone including pundits in the media, bologna players and their fans were a bit overconfident before Friday’s match thinking that they could beat Milan again.

Conceição has a far better record in cup finals compared to Italiano. So I expect Milan will stay grounded and get the job done on Wednesday.

  3. Ok ok, we can be faves on this one, but our season does not entitle us to any kind of silly overconfidence… We must stay VERY grounded and focused too.
