Brahim Diaz reveals thoughts behind celebration and what team-mates said after goal vs. Juventus

By Oliver Fisher -

Brahim Diaz has insisted that he does not mind what position he plays as long as he is out there on the field as he was decisive in AC Milan’s 2-0 win over Juventus.

There was a familiar feel to things at San Siro tonight as Fikayo Tomori and Brahim Diaz both got their names on the scoresheet and helped to record a clean sheet, just as happened in the 3-0 win against Juve at the Allianz Stadium towards the end of the 2020-21 season.

The Spaniard played out wide in that game but on the left with Hakan Calhanoglu as the playmaker, and tonight he was fielded on the right side of what appeared to be quite a fluid 4-3-3 formation, scoring the second goal with some clever pressure, excellent dribbling and a composed finish.

Brahim spoke to DAZN after the game about the role he played and the importance of such a positive result after the midweek disappointment in London against Chelsea, with MilanNews relaying his comments.

On playing on the right: “I want to play. I play where the coach puts me. We are a united team, we work a lot together and this is important.”

On the goal: “I am very happy, but above all for the three points that were important.”

On the yellow card for having removed the shirt after the goal: “As a child I always wanted to celebrate by removing my shirt. I was in the process of doing it last year against Spezia, then Calabria stopped me (smiles).”

On scoring against Juventus again with Tomori: “I don’t know, it’s a coincidence, but the most important thing is the three points. My team-mates, joking after the game, told me that I should always play against Juve. The most important thing, however, is the three points.”

Brahim Diaz also spoke to Sky Italia.

On the match: “I always want to help the team. The goal is important for me and for the team, I am very happy especially for the team’s performance and for the three points. The coach always prepares the game well. We won and this is the important thing.”

On the celebration: “There was nothing special. As a child I saw this and I wanted to do it. Rafa picked me up and I had never seen myself so tall. Ten is mine now. I was happy and excited for the goal.”

On the relationship with his team-mates: “They love me and I love them too. It is a very close team, we train every day and we always see each other. I’m a good guy (laughs).”

On the new position on the pitch: “I always feel best when I play, like all players. I want to play where the coach puts me, of course I have never played so openly in that position. On the wing I had played but never like that. The coach put me there and I wanted to do everything for the team. Where the coach puts me I’m happy.”

On the idea of staying at Milan beyond his loan: “I am very happy here at Milan. They love me, now I’m here and I want to do everything to help the team and make the fans happy.”

  1. Yes, Brahim can be the RW solution if he keep this kind playing-style : play faster, dribbles fast, run, penetrate fast, not playmaking-style.

    1. I agree with you, it seems like he plays better as a right winger, he is faster, more agile and more technical than both Saelemakers and Messias, and it’s looking like he will do a better job than the both of them on the right wing. I just hope Pioli can continue to test him in that position.

  2. When real calls him at the end of the season and says, ‘look, we got a bunch of players leaving we have space’ he isnt going to think 2 much. Shame, he could be the rw we need 😀
