MN: Why Brahim Diaz must consider staying at Milan despite Real Madrid temptation

By Oliver Fisher -

Brahim Diaz remains important to Stefano Pioli and AC Milan as we enter the business end of the season, while his future beyond the season remains in doubt.

MilanNews recalls how Brahim was the man of the match in the quarter-final first leg against Napoli, continuing a trend of being decisive when moved out to the right wing and therefore being free to find spaces and half-spaces out wide.

Real Madrid are monitoring him with interest and would like to bring him back to base ahead of next season, while Milan would like to keep him but obviously on their own terms.

Playing on the right wing against Juventus earlier in the season saw him put in one of his best performances since joining in 2020, and in the two recent wins over Napoli he remained dangerous and unpredictable in that role, even helping in the non-possession phase with his pressing and coverage.

The former Manchester City man has constantly raised his level year after year, always growing in at least one area, which makes everyone think that when he reaches his peak he will be a very interesting player and even more useful to the cause.

Keeping him would be ideal for Milan as he already knows the club, team, pressures and expectations. Of course, the final decision will be up to him and when Real Madrid call (or recall in this case) it is difficult to say no, especially in a historical moment in which there is a technical and economic gap between Los Blancos and the Rossoneri that needs to be bridged.

However, for a player who overall does not have an absolute guaranteed starting spot at Milan, going back to Real Madrid could be a gamble that stunts his growth.

  1. it seems to make sense for all parties if he stays. So hopefully they can agree a deal. Given how little depth we have in attack, we need to keep him.
Saying that, it is interesting how often players find their best form in the final months of their contracts.
He needs to continue his growth and improvement. He has been a pleasant surprise in 2023

  2. Let’s see if his form can continue till end of season. Anyway Milan doesn’t have control over his fate. He plays well, RM takes him back. He sucks in the games to come, Milan will not pay $20M for him. Dilemma right from the start. Had Poli been decisive to throw Adil and CDK on earlier in the season, this will be lesser a problem

    1. CDK has had more chances than he has earned or deserved.
I honestly cant think of a player who has showed less and was still given regular opportunities.
The reason for that is simply his price tag.
He should join the primavera for the rest of the year

      1. CDK has been terrible. True to it. But Poli has always thrown this guy into the game in the last 10-20mins. It just doesn’t help. Give him a run of a few games as starting 11.
