CM: Brahim Diaz produces a ten-worthy performance as quest for redemption begins

By Oliver Fisher -

Brahim Diaz didn’t have it all his own way last season as he struggled from September onwards, but his performance in the win over Udinese to begin the 2022-23 campaign has generated excitement.

Calciomercato.com recall how Brahim Diaz is no stranger to starting the season on the right foot. In round one of 2021-22 he scored the winning goal against Sampdoria at the Marassi, and he would net four times in the first nine games overall with three of them being decisive goals.

He was on fire against Udinese, as his testing low shot caused Silvestri to parry the ball out with Calabria getting fouled attempting to slot in the rebound, thus resulting in the 1-1 goal from the spot. Then Brahim gambled intelligently and was in the right spot to stab home and make it 3-2 after a defensive mix-up, before he found Rebic not long after to make it 4-2, adding an assist to his goal.

His last goal wasin a Serie A match last September 25, a 2-1 win against Spezia, and now he wants to put Pioli in difficulty from the start of the season by performing well and keeping Adli and De Ketelaere out of the team through sheer hard work and end product.

The Rossoneri head coach has also declared on several occasions that he does not see his squad in terms of starters and bench players: “I don’t want to talk more about the starters, we have 26 starters and everyone will play.” Music to the ears of Brahim, who is already aiming to convince.

  1. Last season at the start of the season Diaz played well for 5 or 6 games and then he go missing until the end of the season so one game does not is going to be different this season but this time i can rest at ease because we have Adli and CDK in the team!

  2. Played very well, though I’d wait a few games to say that he has changed.

The good news is that we have a deeper team the ability to have more rotation in his position this season , so he won’t need to play every 3 days as a starter.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Kjaer is deemed in good shape and we purchase no one and keep Gabbia and Ballo Toure.

  3. Well maybe he can become a decent vice CDK due to his effort he puts in the game. Altough I think he just isn´t good enough for a club like Milan.

  4. I was a big critic of Diaz last year both about his weakness (getting knocked over/falling down so easily all the time) and also not making the right pass/play in the final third.

This is just one game; but the big difference between him this year and last year, you can see he hit the weights and got stronger. So I respect him very much for realizing one of his big problems from last year and working hard to try to fix that.

Last year after he got COVID (after his hot start), his mentality was never correct all season long. Hopefully this year his confidence and concentration won’t be broken now that he’s worked to strengthen himself physically.

  5. Diaz actually was behind the 2nd goal as well as his accurate pass to Calabria was pretty much perfect and Calabria’s cross found Rebic in the box. So he was involved in every Milan goal.
