Stefano Pioli got just the reaction he wanted from AC Milan in the game against Salernitana, and Davide Calabria was one of the keys to making that happen. The Rossoneri captain really showed his importance to the team.
Calabria got injured back in September and missed a total of 12 games for Milan as a result. He managed to recover for the friendly against PSV Eindhoven and thus played from start against Salernitana earlier this week.
Pioli got just the reaction he wanted from the team and Calabria, being the captain of the team, was a key player in the clash. Although he wasn’t always technically brilliant, his positioning created a great base structure for Milan and he choose the right times to push forward.
While Pierre Kalulu was a right-back prior to joining Milan, he never really looked fully comfortable in that position during Calabria’s absence and the latter’s return really improved the defence as a whole. The goal conceded, we should remember, came after Calabria’s was subbed off.
The hope is that Calabria will be able to build on the performance tomorrow, as Milan will take on Roma, and thus give the Rossoneri a massive boost structurally. The stability at the back was the key for the Scudetto and Calabria, without a doubt, was a huge part of that success.
So far Calabria is Milan best RB right now. He have much better defense than Kalulu, Florenzi, or Dest.
Correct, but kallulu should stay as a Center def. I’m having starting to become skeptical to tomori. To me Kalallu should start but with kjaer or tomori? That’s the question
