Caldara’s father slams AC Milan and reveals backstory of Atalanta return

By Isak Möller -

After a very unlucky spell at AC Milan, Mattia Caldara moved back to Atalanta earlier this month, as the Rossoneri agreed to part ways with the defender. Now, his father has come out to criticise the red and black side.

In total, the defender only made two appearances for the club during the one and a half years he spent there. Of course, this is the result of his major injury struggles, having kept him on the sidelines for 44 games.

The return to Atalanta, therefore, makes a lot of sense for both parties. In addition to his injury struggles, Caldara also had some issues off the pitch that had an effect on Milan’s decision to sell him, as we exclusively revealed.

The story could have ended there. However, in an interview with Tuttosport (via MilanNews.it), Caldara’s father Stefano decided to criticise the San Siro side for the lack of chances his son received.

“He feels good, as lately at Milan. He played three times in the Primavera team with the Rossoneri but he never got the chance to return with the first team. He has always trained well, why not try him?

“For at least five months, I have been hoping for a solution like this. Despite many promises at Milan, there was never really any possibility to enter the rotations.

“After the 5-0 loss to Atalanta, when Gabbia warmed up instead of him, Mattia asked his agent to speed up the process,” he concluded.
