Calhanoglu responds to Scudetto taunts and idea he left Milan for Inter due to money

Hakan Calhanoglu has addressed the AC Milan fans who believe that he left for Inter due to the money, as well as those who taunt him about the 2021-22 Scudetto.

Calhanoglu’s transfer from Milan to Inter in 2021 is one of those that caused a fall-out that still rages on for many. Some Rossoneri supporters see it as a betrayal, leaving for a city rival, while the Nerazzurri are enjoying a player who has become a key pillar under Simone Inzaghi.

After being runner-up to Inter in the Scudetto battle when he was with Milan in 2020-21, he had to watch his former team-mates celebrate the lifting of the league title the next year as Stefano Pioli’s side won the duel.

Calhanoglu has previously claimed that the red half of the city ‘hate’ him, while he has now spoken out about some of the stories that surrounded his exit at the time, such as the idea he only left Milan for Inter because he was offered more money.

“Everyone thinks I left because of an economic issue, but money isn’t always everything. The most important thing for me is to feel important, and that’s what I’ll try here,” he told Mediaset (via La Gazzetta dello Sport).

“The Milan fans saying it was a mistake given the Scudetto lost in 2022? I wish them the best, but with patience we’ll see.”

There were rumours that the Turkey international could have left during the most recent summer window but he wanted to stay, also because of his great relationship with Simone Inzaghi.

“It’s true, I rejected some offers from Saudi Arabia. I decided not to leave because I love Inter. I thank Ausilio because he knows what I think. When those offers arrived I told the club ‘you decide’.

“Inzaghi? I like the way he talks to us players, he always wants to win and gets annoyed when we let up a bit in training: he has desire and malice.

“Beyond the sporting side he also has a lot of heart, you can talk about anything with him. We arrived here together and together we are growing.

“The ambition is to win something important with Inter. Between the Scudetto and another Champions League final, I choose the former.

“Juve say they are aiming for fourth place? I don’t listen to what they say and in any case I don’t look at the opponents, I only think about us.”

  1. “I decided not to leave because I love Inter. I thank Ausilio because he knows what I think. When those offers arrived I told the club ‘you decide’.”

So which is it? You decided or the club decided? F’ng lier. Saying “You decide” isn’t making the decision but letting the others do it for you. You didn’t decide anything, **hole! Love the club? If you love it, why “I don’t care, you decide”-decision?

He’s as annoying off the pitch as he’s on it. Bennacer should return him a favor in the match in April.

  2. He is still talking about Milan? Move on…we all did, especially after winning the scudetto.
To be completely honest, he has improved as an Inter player. It could be because of confidence or the position in which he plays. But his performances with Milan never made him important in the team; inconsistent and bad decisions, some good games but no thing special.

    1. He was important to Pioli’s Milan. Pioli himself loud n clear said that Hakan was one of the several key pillars in his Milan. We can get all biased with him changing colors, just like several members here got biased by saying we dodged a bullet by not signing Thuram (it doesn’t age well does it), but it doesn’t mean that our system wasn’t built around him.

And we might as well prepare to see him lifting the title this season. If nothing major happens, it’s hard not to see the snake winning the title. Believe me I hate him and his club with all my guts. But sometimes we need be rational as well.

      1. Spot on. He’s actually what we were missing in the 4231 last year. Both Him and Kessie. These are guys that raise the technical level of the team. He did get lucky with Eriksen’s injury, or else no other offers were coming in. True we’d have an unhappy Chalha but he was better than any other CAM we’ve had so far. But yea he’s vastly improved at Inter, as does many players under Inzaghi.

  3. This is the real traitor fellow, not Donnaruma.

And it’s true that he didn’t leave because of money. Inter offered him just 500k additional for the move.

  4. He keeps talking about Milan like an ex-girlfriend he can’t get over… Mentions it every time he’s interviewed about his success at INter. LOL!!!

    i don’t get it.
