Capello critical of the way Milan have handled Camarda: “Could have played more”

Fabio Capello has criticised AC Milan’s handling of Francesco Camarda, claiming that he could have been given more opportunities.

It was a strange season for Camarda who shuttled between the first team and Milan Futuro for the first part, then made his first league start in a draw against Cagliari, before becoming mostly an unused substitute in 2025.

He played the second half of the win against Monza which brought the curtain down on 2024-25, and his performance was positive. This has led to suggestions that the new head coach Massimiliano Allegri could give him more chances, but also that he might be ready for a loan spell.

Capello’s criticism

Capello was a pundit for Sky during the Champions League final between PSG and Inter, and he spoke about the use of young players. MilanNews relayed his comments.

“With young players you have to work much more. There are some players, there is the Milan centre-forward who in my opinion could have played more, Camarda,” he said.

“He is a player who played 25 minutes [he actually played 45] in the last match at San Siro: he made 2-3 plays, he changed the match, but I don’t know what they expected to play him. And he is 17 years old…

“You play players because they have been bought and have a bit more charisma, but if you don’t play the young players…”
