Capello praises ‘courageous’ Milan youngster Bartesaghi: “Increasingly valuable”

Davide Bartesaghi has been one of the exclamation marks for AC Milan this season, and after last night’s win against Lazio, even Fabio Capello had praise for the youngster.

After starting on the bench in the first five league games, Bartesaghi has now played seven of the last eight games from start. In short, he has cemented his place in the left-back position, with Pervis Estupinan being relegated to deputy as things stand.

In the 1-0 win against Lazio on Saturday evening, the 19-year-old put in yet another good performance, showcasing a maturity that is rare for a player of his age. This is something that the legendary manager Fabio Capello highlighted in his editorial this morning too.

“One player who has earned Allegri’s trust thanks to solid performances is Bartesaghi, who is now a regular on the left flank. He’s not Theo, okay, but he’s a homegrown asset who’s becoming increasingly valuable.

“He’s physically strong, courageous, and communicates confidently with his teammates,” Capello wrote in his editorial.

It’s possible that Bartesaghi could get some rest in Thursday’s Coppa Italia game against Lazio, giving Estupinan a chance to prove himself after a rocky first few months at the club. On the flip side, Max Allegri will surely be keen to field the best team possible to advance to the quarter-finals.

  1. Indirect benefits of buying a crap like Estupinan. It opens door for him and he takes opportunity with both hands. Even that takes multiple mistakes from Estupinan.

  2. Maybe this will change the thinking of management. Let’s really give the youngsters a chance. Camarda and others (Liberalli) would look really good in this system we have now. It took Davide a few FULL matches to get to this spot, not 8 to 10 minutes at the end of a match. If they did that, maybe we’d have a decent back up for Pulisic instead of a 40 million dollar Nkunku and we’d have a good back up striker that’s homegrown.

    1. It won’t. Bartesaghi is the exception and not the rule.
Given the players we can play up front instead of Camarda (Leao, Pulisic), he wouldn’t start for this Milan side.
The only reason Barte even got a chance was because Estupinan was shaky. If he had done well, Barte would have been stuck on the bench as well.

      1. Yeah but Nkunku & Gimenez are 80millions with 0 goal (apart from 1 for each in coppa Italia) , player such Chaka Traoré, Ossola or even Sia with the same playing time as the french & mexicain would at least have scored while made an assist.

    2. Liberali has played a total of 98 minutes for whatever team he plays for in serie B. Has played in only 4 games. Some fans thought he should be getting minutes at Milan.
Just because one player turns good doesn’t mean every Primavera player is good. Liberali wasn’t even a starter for the Primavera.
And no, there was never any Pulisic backup in the Primavera.
Milan youth teams have rarely produced a player who will play a major role in the 1st team. About one per decade, and it was usually a defender or defensive midfielder.

  3. This Milan owner (incl. CEO) is to clean the local players.

He is not meant to be a starting lineup, but Estupidoo… u know,

  4. Bartesaghi is a very talented and mature beyond his years player who will be a big part of Milan and Italian National Teams for many years.
While we’re talking about selling strikers in January, the club may want to consider selling Estupinan and bringing in a younger, cheaper player to back up Bartesaghi. Estupinan is not going to be happy as a backup to a soon to be 20 year old. Don’t risk the drama.
