Tuttosport: From Pompeo to Rice – Cardinale’s links with politics in the USA

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale has some interesting relationships when it comes to US politics, a report claims.

Today’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) talks about Cardinale and his links with the political scene of his home country. For example, Mike Pompeo – head of US foreign policy during Donald Trump’s stay in the White House – was present for the first derby of the season against Inter.

Cardinale has intertwined his path at the helm of the financial fund active in the sport business also with Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of State in the second term of George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005, after having served as National Security Advisor in the former.

Condoleezza Rice – as a partner in global consultancy firm Rhgm – advised RedBird in the acquisition of 10% of the shares of Fenway Sports Group, the company that owns Liverpool.

The contract was signed on July 26 2020, by Cardinale (in the role of co-president of RedBall, the Stock Exchange vehicle created by RedBird to define the deal) and Anja Manuel, in turn an expert in foreign policy as RHGM ‘s other two founding partners, former Pentagon chief Robert Gates and former National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley.

Furthermore, Condoleezza Rice has been a great fan of American football ever since she was vice-chancellor at Stanford University and closely followed the choices of the university team’s coaches. In July of last year, the US politician and diplomat became co-owner of the Denver Broncos.

Cardinale spent time at Goldman Sachs, during which worked in the hospitality of American football stadiums, in particular with the Dallas Cowboys.

  1. Yikes. So we’re owned by a guy who’s friends with some of the worst people in the world. Mike Pompeo is a major bigot and a criminal. I dislike redbird even more now.
