Castillejo claims Milan were ‘everything’ to him as he reflects on four-year spell

By Oliver Fisher -

Samu Castillejo is back in Serie A after a brief return to Spain, and he has spoken in a very complimentary way about what being an AC Milan player meant to him.

Castillejo signed with Milan in August 2018, with Carlos Bacca moving in the opposite direction, and he scored his first goal for the club against the team that he has just joined on loan from Valencia, Sassuolo.

The Spaniard would end up playing 113 games for the Rossoneri across all competitions with 10 goals and 15 assists to his name, but by the end he had fallen massively out of favour under Stefano Pioli.

He made several notable contributions during his time at the club but the most memorable might be his appearance off the bench in Milan’s 3-2 comeback win against Hellas Verona during the Scudetto season, which he was in tears after.

During an interview with Sassuolo’s official channel, Castillejo reflected on the time that he spent with Milan and the feeling he had during his period at San Siro, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“Milan was everything to me, I lived there for four years. It’s difficult to explain the AC Milan feeling, you have to live and feel it,” he said.

“I arrived in a period in which it wasn’t like the current Milan, then there were changes of coaches, the arrival of Ibra and the victory of the Scudetto after many years.

“The Scudetto is difficult, consistency is needed throughout the year and at the beginning no one believed. It was a bit of a strange season, I didn’t play much but there were some matches in which I gave my contribution.”

  1. He was a good sub but unfortunately he was weak and had weak legs. I keep remembering his horrible corners. Maybe if the Milan staff focused on bulking him up he could’ve been something else.
