Tuttosport: Chances of ‘unimaginable disaster’ growing for Milan as Scudetto ‘utopia’ fades

Paulo Fonseca and certain AC Milan players continue to talk about the Scudetto target, but the table tells a very different story at the moment.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reports, after the draw against Juventus, Fonseca said he still believes in the Scudetto: “We are not satisfied, but I know that it is difficult for people to think so, but I continue to believe in the Scudetto. There are many games to play and many points that teams can lose.”

What matters for now though is that the ones who continue to drop points is Milan, who are currently 10 away from the top (with a game in hand). Not only is it a ‘utopia’ to talk about the title, but qualification for the next Champions League is also at risk.

As we know, this is Milan’s minimum objective. At the moment, the Rossoneri are seventh, nine points behind Fiorentina who occupy fourth place, and they also have Lazio and Juventus ahead of them. Therefore, the situation is anything but simple and the risk of missing out is growing as the weeks pass.

There are many games and perhaps some teams will suffer a burnout, but the time has come for Milan to put together a streak of victories because they cannot afford to move further away from the top four positions.

With 19 points in twelve games, the Portuguese coach has obtained the worst start for the Rossoneri since the 2019-20 season when they had obtained 13 points with Marco Giampaolo and then Stefano Pioli on the bench.

A year ago, with Pioli in charge, the Diavolo were third with 26 points. An immediate change of pace is therefore needed because remaining out of the Champions League at the end of the season would be an ‘unimaginable disaster’.

  1. Nothing is going to change. This team is not built to play possession football, nor do the understand how zonal defending works.

There is a reason almost all of them were dirt cheap, they are rejects that didn’t fit anywhere, injury prone or just brainless. There are maybe 4 or 5 worth a damn, rest are somewhere between mediocre and garbage. And this coach is not the one that one that can polish a turd that is this team into a shining beacon of hope, because he is just as mediocre as they are.

Combine that with the owner whose ambitions lie in monetary instead of sporting success and you get Milan that is barely able to qualify for Conference League.
