Longo: Chelsea ‘make or break’ offer for Maignan expected as Milan reject first bid

Mike Maignan’s future at AC Milan could be decided shortly, with Chelsea preparing another offer in the next few days.

The situation with Maignan has turned rather quickly, especially with him informing Milan that he has no interest in renewing his deal at the club. However, it seems that there is a final chance for things to end amicably this summer.

A first bid

Chelsea, as reports suggested last week, made a bid much less than what the Rossoneri are seeking for the Frenchman. In fact, it was believed to be in the ballpark, and today Daniele Longo has further confirmed this information on X.

According to the journalist, a first offer was received and rejected as it fell short of the club’s valuation. No exact figures are provided, however, it was less than €20 million, whilst the club are seeking a figure between €25-30m.

Second bite of the cherry

With their desperation to sign a keeper, Longo reports that a ‘make or break’ bid will be sent by the Blues on Monday or Tuesday, which will come close to the FIFA transfer deadline – which is a massive part in a few deals.

It would be imagined that it should arrive sooner, so all parties have time to assess and discuss the offer if it is not satisfactory. However, this is certainly not a deal where time is of the essence.

  1. “bid will be sent by the Blues on Monday or Tuesday, which will come close to the FIFA transfer deadline”

Oh, okay then. 50M€ or GTFO 🙂

  2. Milan needs to revise their contract policy.

All new contracts must add an automatic 1 year renewal option that Milan can exercise to prevent players play punk on the final 2 year.

    1. You have to pay a substantial amount in wages to secure that insurance policy. Theo accepted 4 million when he was worth 7.5 to 8.5. Mike accepted way less when he was worth 5.5 to 6.5. This was done to keep Leao, Tonali and Bennacer. Then we know what happened. They fired Maldini, who had a gentleman’s agreement with them, and started a firesale. They know if the club won’t pay them 6 to 7.5 million euros after years of being underpaid and seeing our best players sold or walk out the door, they will not achieve their career objectives of winning or playing in the CL, competitively, nor receive fair pay. The only decision left for them is to thank the club and treat those in decision making positions the same manner they are treated as well as thanked them. Go out for nothing so they can come up short, just like their low ball offers.

      1. Can we just rest on this maldini obsession. Maldini was there when Donarumma left for free. Maldini was there when Cahanoglu left for free. Maldini was there when Kessie left for free. These are 3 powerful players. In terms of contract and sales, please don’t bring in maldini. Even in recruiting players, this current management did well. It is the players that refuse to play. We had the best individual players after inter in the championship. They just aren’t a team.

        1. Maldini had to work with a wage limit of 4.5mil. Not his descision. He won us the Scudetto with that, what more do you like.

          1. Excactly. And a shoestring transferbudget.

Did Maldini have the money to extend those contracts? No he didnt.

Kessie left a big hole in midfield and cover for the defence.

Morale of the team has plummeted after he left

  3. Wow, management are making sure Allegri has very little to work with. Reijnders gone, Theo going, Leao asking to leave, Maignon looking likely to leave? Tare is going to need divine intervention to re-build a Scudetto challenging squad.

    1. So we don’t build a Scudetto challenging squad next season. Frankly, expecting this team to be a title challenger is just setting them up for failure.

Aim next season should be top 4. Failing that, we need to make sure any incoming players and youngsters are getting enough positive experiences that they’re ready to challenge in 26 27.

We must stop thinking short term.

      1. Problem is long term Redbird wants to sale for profit, so the club will never be stable long term with their strategy.
As for 4th place, they want to invest as minimum as posible in order to just get that CL money. However football is not like ordinary investing and that minimum might not work out, like this season. You compete with a lot of other clubs who might invest more and tip the scale or have better plan, motivation for their players… its just to tricky to hope that minimal investments will bring you big profit in football. In general Redbird don’t understand how things go in football.

        1. They want UCL money to be able to grow the team and the club. They’re not idiots (although they do a good impression) and will know the best way to grow the value of their asset is to have a successful team. They’re not going to think having a Serie A club is an annual way to make profit… the value comes from the brand and its assets, most importantly the ownership of a stadium going forward. And those will devalue if there’s no success.

They have invested plenty of money into the team, we’ve been big spenders for the last few season. But not running at a loss is important for our ability to enter European competitions and not stack up massive debt for Redbird… the latter is important to them because if they rack up that debt they’ll lose the club back to the Singers. Obviously I don’t care about that (actually, I think it would be the best thing for Milan right now) but that’s the reasoning.

When anyone says they need UCL money or player sales to profit off….. that’s not how you make money from something they spent a Billion USD on.
