Atletico Madrid have increased their offer for Theo Hernandez and now the deal with AC Milan is close to completion.
The soap opera surrounding the future of Theo seems to be nearing its end. It is clear that Milan wanted to sell the defender for more money to Saudi Arabia, while the defender wants to stay in Europe, but Atletico Madrid were previously not offering enough.
Theo close to leaving
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Atletico have put forward a new bid and the parties are getting closer. New developments in the negotiations between Atletico and Theo arrived on Thursday night as the Spanish club have increased their offer.
Initially, Diego Simeone’s team had offered €15m for the Frenchman, but Milan had refused it. The base on which they are working now is €20m, with the two sides now moving ever closer to the finish line.

After having rejected Al-Hilal, Theo Hernandez is ever closer to a new experience in Europe and a return to the Spanish capital. Contacts between Atletico Madrid and Milan are continuous, and with this increase in the offer from Los Colchoneros the deal can now be closed quickly.
Sky are also reporting that Theo Hernandez’s experience in Serie A could end after six years. Signed in 2019 for almost €23m from Real Madrid, he played 262 games in all competitions at Milan, with a total of 34 goals and 45 assists.
Bargain if they get him for 20 million.
Should have sold him a year or two ago
Man, a dude who was once worth close to 100 million and now going to 20 million. At least it’s something and not for free but damn, really screwed this one up. Went from almost being a full time captain to being pushed out. Would love to hear the tea on that. I guess his goals scored record will remain right where it is.
According to Transfermarkt Theo was never worth more than 60 million. That’s worth as close to a 100m as it is to 20m.
He’s worth 20 because his contract is expiring. He would be worth 45 if he had five years left.
34 goals and 45 assists for a Lb is a very good stats.
i will forever miss you Theo
Sure, if you don’t consider defense at all when talking about a defender… Might as well play Vini Jr. at LB, he would have impressive offensive stats as well. Anyone remember when defenders used to be judge by how well they defended?
Well Tijjani, Krunic, RLC, Musah, Pobega, Adli were not the most mobile or complete players. They all have significant gaps in their game that can make a LB who is expected to attack and defend look a lot worse than if he was well supported. Theo had to take on the oppositions best defenders and try to cover the wings where most teams employ their fastest, most skilled players. He did a thankless job seeing the amount of hate he gets. You carry a declining team and bust your lungs out for 5 years straight while seing the best of them walk out the door to make your job harder, your goals impossible to achieve no matter how hard you work, then see what happens to your temper or attitude.
He was never a great defensive player, he also had to do a lot in transition and attack, that could compromise his ability to defend throughout a whole game. He played A LOT OF MINUTES WITHOUT AN ADEQUATE BACKUP. It is normal he’d crash out eventually.
Well said my bro, Theo doesn’t deserve the amount of hate we give him here coupled with the club managerial incompetence.
Damn.. Such a fun player to watch when he has a good day, and most probably won’t see anything like that in Milan in the near future. It’s just a unfortunate ending
At his best he was the best in the world at his position.
But he’s been shot since the ’22 WC in Qatar. Add a poor attitude the last year or two into that and Milan should take 20mil and run.
Remember when he was 50+ million? We could have sold him and kept Tonali (20/20) hindsight but we could have had a captain and someone who loves the club.
You can say that about all players, “we could have sold him”. If you sell someone then you miss out on the actual benefit of having them on the team. Yes, we could have sold him, but then maybe we wouldn’t even have won the scudetto.
All good things come to an end but maybe this should have ended a year or two ago?
Sure he was worth big money back then but that’s when milan had also won a scudetto and had champions league ambitions. Present day, theo was one of our worst performers of last season and mix that with a really bad attitude and we’re lucky to even get that much. Maybe he returns to his best but its right that he leaves. Zinchenko on the other hand isn’t who I was looking for. For that money why wouldn’t you go for de cuyper or udogie.
Udogie will not leave for anything less than 50 to 60 million. Tottenham do not sell on the cheap.
He took a lot of flack for a poorly constructed midfield and limited defenders. When our midfielders started leaving, he was the focal point for opposition to mark. Without suitable outlets to aid him receive or give the ball too, poorer options to build and finish attacks, as well as less adequate defensive support from the midfield, he had to do more work by himself, and have only Leao on his side to create it limited his ability to create or finish chances, achieve less successful results from his efforts. He also played incessantly.
Kessie’s departure coincided with the beginning of his perceived decline. With Tonali going being were it snowballed. He became the lightning rod for a poorly managed team. Also Ibra, Giroud, Kjaer slowing down put more pressure on him. He did well on a severely limited roster.
He will flourish in Madrid and a lot of people here will swallow their words for criticizing him so vehemently. He deserves better than the treatment he received. He played his heart out for us and put in a lot of miles at a high pace, took on a lot of physical battles too being a main target. I wish him well.
@chrisp Almost everything in your comment is delusional.
One excuse after another for this guy. To say he played his heart out for this club is absurd. Nobody gave less of an effort this season than Theo. Theo plays for Theo and he always has. One of the most selfish and lazy players I’ve ever seen.
It’s not even about his form which was awful this season, it’s about his effort and attitude which as a leader has infected the entire team. From undermining the coach, to disobeying the coaches orders, stealing penalties away from his teammate(then missing the penalty), ball watching instead of marking his man on crosses, getting suspended for 2 games for arguing with the refs after the match. Getting sent off in a must win Champions League match for 2 ridiculous yellow cards. I could go on and on with this guy.
He’s not a good teammate and definitely not who you want as one of the leaders on your club. Good riddance.
Everything in your comment is based on one year where the entire team sucked and you want to nit pick on him. Walker, Royal, Bondo, Morata, Gimenez, Felix, Fofana, Pavlović, Sottil…How many played better or even passably consistently or made his job any easier or efficient, that gave end results to anything he started? Pulisic and Tijjani receive praises, how many goals or contributions against top ten teams? Against Inter maybe?
Lazy is an easy word to use. He had 3 goals and 4 assists, one Assist less than Tijjani, his passing percentage nearly identical to Tijjani’s, Key passes as per game as well. Average successful passes per game as well. Most crosses completed. On par with Pulisic. Third most minutes played only behind Maignan and Tijjani. So yes, in isolated events he had bad disciplinary moments, he also did as much if not as well as the players who are praised here while putting better defensive stats up. He was probably our most complete player despite having disciplinary problems. He had committed less fouls on average per game than Tijjani. Had the most clearances and blocked shots outside of our centerbacks. He came 4th highest player ratings for the whole year. 1 out of 6 years he was less than excellent. Still was one of our better players. It is easy to remember the moments he faltered and omit the rest of his work. Compared to the rest of his teammates he was actually not so bad.
@chrisp never mind bro most of these guys root for Milan for a few months. Or root for Redbird, which is the same. They missed the resurgence under the previous management and are obviously not knowledgeable about the alienation of Milan’s top players by this management, albeit it is well documented now.
Bart always here to make excuses for these poor little spoiled millionaires as to why they can’t act as professionals and give a decent effort. It’s never their fault. If only Maldini was here to hold his hand…😢
Mk is one of those leftist whinies that always has an issue with someone making a lot of money and knows how you should act and behave when you make that money. And has to mention this often. Classic loser.
@No Congrats. This is the single dumbest comment I think I’ve ever read on this site, and that is saying something.
Expecting grown men who get paid millions of dollars to do a job to act like professionals is a leftist position?? Ok.
Personal responsible instead of blaming everyone else is a leftist position? I think you are quite confused. The ones like yourself who think nothing is ever the players fault, they are just victims of the evil management sounds like the leftist position to me.
Well Said MK !!!!! Crisp never watched a game this year……. LOSER
“as well as less adequate defensive support from the midfield, he had to do more work by himself, ”
Ha ha 😂.
Nah, he actually had to do his job, instead of other players doing his job for him.
Yeah, when you run twice as much as your teammates and cover more ground than them, play more minutes, score more goals and assists than 95% of the team…as a defender…you did some of their job too…they are supposed to defend when he does that, they failed and were abysmal at that. The team effort in defending and build up play was terrible. Point at him, shows you want to scapegoat him.
” cover more ground ” Chrisp you must be talking about my boy .PULISIC
As a defender?!?
Calling Theo a defender is an insult to every defender to ever play football.
Where were the goals and the assists?
He still wasn’t defending, with or without the adequate defensive support from the midfield, nor was he providing goals and assists unless it was Venezia or some other relegation team.
And he absolutely doesn’t run more than his teammates. He can’t defend, he just likes to run forward, losing the ball 99% of the time that led to a counterattack against Milan.
Apparently Milan needs midfielders that can defend instead of Theo, run instead of Leao and score goals instead of both of them.
I guess now we know why all our midfielders (Hakan, Kessie, Tonali, Reijnders, Krunic, even bum a$$ Bennacer) couldn’t wait to leave. They were asked to do the jobs of 3 people while they were getting paid less than the players whose jobs they were doing.
His sh*t season still have 5goals and 4assists
So you understand who should stop the drugs.
Put me in at LB for Atletico and I’ll shine too.
The only way for you to shine is to cremate you and put you in a shiny jar. You can’t run for 7 minutes.
To those saying he should have been sold a year or two ago — wouldn’t that have caused the same kind of uproar we saw with the Tonali and Reijnders deals?
One reason I feel neutral about TJ’s sale to Man City is that he feels like a “one-season wonder.” The amount we got for him this season is probably more than we could’ve gotten even six months from now.
But hey, let’s blame the management for approving Reijnders’ sale and supposedly accepting low offers for Mike and Theo…
True mate, but some won’t get it.
They even got an article explaining why they sold him in this formula (55mil now + 15 later), to get good revenue in books for current season, and possibly avoid getting too much money to AZ.
Tiji is already 27 years old, with only 2 good seasons in top5 leagues. 70mil EUR is really a good price for him.
And on top of all it – truth is, if that 70mil offer for Tiji would be some kind of bargain, then why nobody else was interested? If 20mil for Theo or Maignan are another bargains, why no other team is joining the race? Let that sink in.
That’s just what I was going to say – imagine the outrage if we’d sold him two years ago…
Unfortunately, Atletico have given up on the idea of signing Hernández.
Their last offer was around 17-18 mil. Milan wanted more.
20mil might seem low, but truth is, if this price would be some kind of bargain, there would be a queue of teams bidding for him. And yet nobody else is interested.
Even Altetico barely go above 15mil. And they probably only want him because he used to play there. Otherwise they wouldn’t even look at him.
The deal is reportedly off.
At least if we’re losing him on the cheap it’s to Simeone; could be a beast there. Or they might murder each other. I suspect the former.
His skill is never in doubt, but his attitude has not been right.
If the attitude is not Milan worthy, it’s better to let him leave, despite my love for him as a player, I have my reservations for the man Theo.
JOHN THE BAPTIST……. Right On !!!!
A unique player is leaving us. It’s really sad. I wish we could have kept him. Let’s watch Simeone make him one of the greatest again. He was a waste at this Milan. But I will never forget his first three years. I heve never witnessed a LB with his play style. A true marvel. His goal against Lazio was truly remarkable.
Leao should go instead of Theo.
I would put Theo as left midfielder and sell LEAO while the value is high. Theo just offer him a renewal and get more value out of him after world cup.
He is not leaving. Atletico will get him for free next season. It is really simple but a lot of people are even simpler than that so it is too complicated to understand. 1 year of contract left, club publicly saying you’re out. Why would Atletico pay more? Milan made a situation where now Atletico knows that he won’t sign a contract and they can wait…I think a monkey would handle this situation better, but we have Furlani.
This club called Milan is just playing, with their fan, they are just like Nigerian govt. They talk but never act. You are selling Theo for 20m and you want to buy zinchinko for 35m, someone who stay on thr bench for the whole season. See management first. Una eyes go clear, you sell TJi and you want to buy Rabiot you can even buy Rici they are so many leapses in Milan management. If the club nor religate una nor go get sense.
Y’all gonna learn soon enough lol.
That’s right—after weeks of back-and-forth, Atletico Madrid have raised their offer for Theo Hernandez to €20 million, bringing them much closer to AC Milan’s valuation 필스토리
