CM: 2021 was crucial for Milan but 2022 must be a new high for the project

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan ended the year with an important 4-2 away at Empoli, putting them back in second place. Collecting just one point less than last season, their project continues to proceed in the right direction.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Milan have experienced a slight drop compared to 202 when they were first in points collected and also has the best defence as well as second-best attack.

In terms of results, though, 2021 brought them back to the Champions League thanks to a fantastic ending to the season. And as said, this season they have collected just one point less than they had at this point last campaign.

With that said, 2022 will have to be the year of a definitive leap in quality. Many thought that this had arrived at the start of this season with Tonali, Leao and Brahim shining, but then came the injuries and absences.

That definitive leap will thus have to go through the January window and the return of the injured. Once that has been sorted, Milan can proceed with their project fully. In 2020, they were reborn. In 2021, they returned to the top. 2022, meanwhile, must restore their competitiveness at the highest level.
