CM: Adli and Milan have differing ideas over the future – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

Paulo Fonseca is currently evaluating several players in the AC Milan squad as preseason preparations continue, and Yacine Adli wants to play for his chances.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Portuguese coach has focused a lot on tactical work on the field to understand where mistakes can be corrected and which players to focus on. Among the most applied is Adli, who has already offered his total availability to the new coach.

As a ‘very intelligent’ player, Adli knows that he must work even harder than his other team-mates to get into Fonseca’s playing philosophy. The Franco-Algerian midfielder has willingly accepted this new challenge because he wants to succeed at Milan.

Day by day, training session after training session, the former Bordeaux man aims to convince Fonseca. “In Yacine’s head there are only two colours, red and black,” the report adds. For him, his bond with the club itself surpasses any reasoning about the playing time he might get next season.

However, the management are not quite as certain, meaning they are ready to listen to offers. One is expected from from Qatar’s Al-Sadd Sports, while there are also several inquiries from the Saudi Pro League. The last word will be up to Adli, increasingly firm in his desire to remain at Milan.

  1. Sad to see them sell him away. This boy bleeds Red/Black and was the only one that showed any emotion after the loss to Inter last season that saw them clinch their 2nd star. I’d rather have Adli over Pobega, Terracciano, or Origi.

Might not be a starter or UCL quality, but still need to rotate players and rather see him back up Reijenders.

  2. We shouldn’t sell him. He is versatile, elegant & intelligent player. He was played out of position. Perhaps loan him out or if we sell we should insert similar clauses like Madrid to buy him back in 1-2 years at a fix price otherwise get big sell on clause.

    1. Yea, but he’s more of a feel good story than an effective chess piece for Milan…

Last season when he got more playing time, I didn’t particularly see him stellar at any one position. in fact I’m still not sure where to field him…

He plays with a chip on his shoulder and maybe that gives him an advantage over others. And the other players really like him, calling him the jester at the club. I don’t know…

      1. You won’t give Adil time to develop despite his creativity, talent and vision AND after learning an entirely NEW POSITION – but will for Musah – who showed nothing but some speed and athleticism playing a position he wa supposed to be good at?

If Musah wasn’t American we wouldn’t even be having this conversation.

Adil cost 8M; Musah 20M. One was a huge overpay for a raw unpolished player. And you want to get rid of the guy with more talent and who bleeds red and black and who despite being told he will never play – STILL stays and STILL wants to fight for the shirt – and STILL improved and had some great games for us – 😂😂😂😂

Musah is a backup. At at 20M that is a luxury we cannot afford. Reindjers is the starter with the new DM (hopefully Fofana). So he’s a back up. Playing a mid 3 – means you have to sit 2 of either RLC, Puli or Chuk – which would mean Chuk is a bust if he cannot beat out Puli. So Musah is an expensive backup at best

        1. “You won’t give Adil time to develop despite his creativity, talent and vision AND after learning an entirely NEW POSITION – but will for Musah – who showed nothing but some speed and athleticism playing a position he wa supposed to be good at? ”

Nothing to add. It’s all there. Case closed.

        2. Agreed. It’s rare these days also to see players show this level of loyalty and grit for the jersey. I would rather keep him and see where his dedication takes him as he has demonstrated already with his determination how he can improve when given the few chances that he had last season

  3. Its like they want to get rid of every player who cares about the club. Tonali, D Maldini, now Adli too. Btw Adli is better then Loftus so not sure how he can’t get a place in the team.

  4. if we get 15M for him and Pobega 10-12M along with Brescianini resale clause of 6M, we could get Ricci and Bove. the latter has only 1 year left so under 10M could be a deal. If they manage to pull this I don’t mind selling Adli.

Bove also is the Roma academy player Fonseca promoted and was loved by Mourinho, a classic CDM. while Ricci reminds me of Tonali, at his time in Brescia, with proper team he can shine.

midfield: Bennacer, Reijnders, Fofana, Musah, RLC, Ricci, Bove – I would say in terms of quality our midfield wouldn’t be any less to Inter and Juve…
If we get J.David who is also in his final year with Morata and Jovic for depth and easing his transition, the only area to improve would be then defense.

  5. Keep the guy Milan.
He might not be a starter today, but he sure can become a important part of the team.

If we play 4-2-3-1 he can be a back-up for RLC (who by the way is not a 10 :-p) since we are not targetting any AM this window. If the new formation will be 4-3-3 he will add something as an 8. Reijnders sometimes can look like a headless chicken, Adli is a good alternativ whitin the team.

AND.. the guy bleeds red and black. Not many players in the team that I can for sure say that loves our Milan more than him.

  6. Adli is not better than Loftus. Both are irregular players who can be putrid one game, and the Man of the Match another game. Still, I think Loftus is a bit more reliable than Adli, who is very much overrated by a part of the fan base.

This said, like any other Milanista, I love Adli’s commitment to the club and to the red and black colors, and I love his work ethics and willingness to accept any role and to work hard on it. He is a really nice guy.

Based on the above, I do not want to see him leave. Like another person said here, he is a very decent sub option and a good rotation player in this environment of playing in multiple tournaments. I just don’t feel that he is starter material like his fans seem to think.

  7. I’d keep him as Reijnders alternative. He used to play as an AM so it shouldn’t be such problem of adapting to a more vertical role. They could both also rotate in a more advanced no10 role. And these kind of determined lads who love the colors are only added value.
