CM: Bayern Munich defender would join Milan under one condition after San Siro visit

By Oliver Fisher -

The news emerged after yesterday’s 2-0 win against Lecce that Benjamin Pavard was not only at San Siro to watch the game but he also visited the AC Milan dressing room.

As Calciomercato.com report, at the full-time whistle Pavard and his team-mates Lucas Hernandez – Theo’s brother – came down to the changing room to say hello to the team, which has given rise to some mercato rumours again.

After four years at Bayern and a cabinet full of trophies, Pavard is looking for a new project as he admitted in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport: ” I’m available to evaluate new interesting projects.”

If Milan were to really make an attempt for the French defender then it seems they can play the Olivier Giroud card in their favour, as Pavard admitted to being close to him.

“Giroud always tells me about the magic of the derbies and the big fan celebration for the Scudetto. I’d really like to play with him because we’re very good friends, Serie A is a very interesting league,” he said.

It could be said that Pavard has already sent a nudge of sorts to Milan, and he would join the Rossoneri on one condition: he wants to be a centre-back. However, in that role Milan already have Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw, Matteo Gabbia, Simon Kjaer and Pierre Kalulu.

That means there are in theory five players fighting for for two spots, and at the moment the only one that could leave is Gabbia to play continuously. Pavard however remains at the window, with a visit to Milan that could be a precursor.

  1. Kjaer won’t get any younger. Thiaw and Gabbia need more experience. And Kalulu can be explored more in RB. So there’s no excuse to add another high quality highly experienced CB in our line. Remember when Maldini first priority was Botman last summer?

      1. Botman’s budget was 30ish mil, and surely that kind of number is a first-team material. While Thiaw is not. So it’s not really an apple to apple ‘replacement’. As the budget was gone to our invisible-kid the untouchable CdK.

All in all, we need another ready-to-be-fielded, first team material, experienced CB.

  2. Well hang on, this is interesting. Kjaer’s contract is up soon and I don’t think it would be reasonable to renew him. As a CB (with the occasional support on the right in worst-case scenarios) he can be a decent addition and a replacement for Romagnoli.

    1. “Kjaer’s contract is up soon and I don’t think it would be reasonable to renew him. ”

LOL. Not reasonable to renew the best performing CB. Joke of the day! 😀 😀 😀

  3. Sign him ASAP Tomori honestly needs someone to complement him always and Simon isn’t getting younger. A fine purchase with experience plus and added advantage for high balls

  4. Tomori is a fine CB but he’s not untouchable. He reminds me a lot of Christian Zapata in that he generally plays well but always seems to have one big mistake in him. I also question his attitude as he pretty viciously roasts his teammates if they make a mistake all while he’s the one giving up penalties and what not…

I’d take 50M and use that to add another starter at CB and backup CDM

  5. Well to be fair i think your wording erratic can describe him better from time to time due to how he moves forward but its also one of his qualities some times. Overall i believe the issues of january and onwards was a mix of bad luck and the following collapse combined with injuries like maignan and many players not performing up to scratch,
Im generally confident that we will reach cl qualification and on that basis i see no reason to sell the player and regardless if we bring in a new player it could take some time to settle and thereby cost us important points and therefore also financially speaking. Overall an 8.5 mil gained by such a sale could easily be prizy in the other end.
I would selll mesias and get a new right wing but i would deffently still keep saelemaekers.
Anyways no ill feellings from me towards you as i feel we have allways had a good repour between us whether its been here or rossoneri blog,

    1. Those overrated player got one World Cup medal and one runner up medal, and is playing at Bayern, one of the best club in the world right now. Not to mention other medal they have.

  6. Unless Milan is selling Tomori there is no need to sign Pavard. Milan needs a left footed CB desperately because all our CBs are right footed which forces Tomori to play on the left side of the defense.
I would have been more interested in Lucas Hernandez as a CB if he was a free agent and wasn’t so injury prone than Pavard.
