CM: Calhanoglu’s Milan future in doubt; no talks over new deal planned

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu faces an uncertain future at the club given his current contract situation, a report claims.

Calhanoglu arrived at the club in the summer of 2017 from Bayer Leverkusen under Yonghong Li’s ownership of the club, a transfer window in which 11 players arrived.

The Turkey international amassed nine goals and 13 assists in 67 Serie A appearances in his first two full seasons with the Rossoneri, but his future was thrust into doubt over the summer.

The 25-year-old was linked with a move to Torino by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews.it), with il Corriere dello Sport (via MN24) even stating that talks between the two clubs were ‘intensifying more and more’.

Calciomercato.com reported that Paolo Maldini would be willing to sell Calhanoglu for the right price but the player was determined to stay, having already rejected an offer from Fenerbahce.

Now, the same outlet have provided an update on the future of the former Hamburger SV star by stating that a renewal of his contract – which expires in 2021 – is not a priority.

If a new deal is not confirmed by the end of the season, then he would go into the 2020-21 campaign with less than 12 months remaining on his contract, which would be a difficult situation for Milan.
