CM: De Ketelaere’s future already decided despite disappointing debut season

It has not been an ideal first season for Charles De Ketelaere, but AC Milan have already made a decision regarding his future in view of the summer window.

Calciomercato.com recall how it was Alexis Saelemaekers’ goal in Rome that got Milan a point, but De Ketelaere ended up in the dock once again. He came on during the 72nd minute and once again made very little impact.

He lost a shoulder-to-shoulder duel which led to Roma’s opening goal through Tammy Abraham in the third added minute, and it was a performance which – like many this season – was judged by most to be too shy and one where he virtually hid on the pitch.

Stefano Pioli considers De Ketelaere to be Brahim Diaz’s first reserve and that is why the 22-year-old is almost certain to stay. The Belgian was the big signing of the post-Scudetto summer window and he cost €30m, and that is why there is still faith he will come good.

In addition to the philosophical side of things, there is also the economic question: who would buy De Ketelaere now after such a negative season for the same price that Milan paid? That is why a sale can be ruled out, because registering a capital loss is not something the management will consider.

Given that he is just 22 and there is still the belief that he will become a top-level player, selling CDK after just a year at the club is absolutely off the table.

  1. How is he Brahim’s first reserve when Brahim is playing RW and sucks as an AM, by the way.

It means he’s third choice doesn’t it?

    1. Its delusional to keep CDK, thinking he will be great, this guy just lacks everything to be a good football player !!!

  2. There’s no reason to not let CDK stay for another season. Everyone saying sell sell sell is emotional and I get it, hes had an abysmal season. But he has potential and is still young. Next season is where we will truly see his growth and evolution. We need patience. This is a long term player not a short term solution. That said, if he doesnt improve next season, then consider selling

    1. What if he ends up like this next season, who’s gonna buy him? The guy is just not good. And why don’t we extend this gesture to Adli?

  3. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses before his value drops even lower.
With CDK being only 22, maybe you can still fool some other club that he can turn into a top player and recuperate some of the money you spent on him.
He has shown absolutely nothing that would make anyone believe that he would be a top player.
When he is on the field is hard to believe that he is actually a professional footballer.
Also to be a top player you need to have top player mentality, and he lost all fo his confidence after a couple of bad games.

  4. Loan him out. He needs to build up confidence and re-find form somewhere where he’s a main attacker, and where expectations are maybe not so high.

    1. I think your right.
He needs to either go back to belgium/holland or go to a small serie a team.
We do not have the room in the squad or the time to be teaching him the basics.
How does Adli get no chances and this guy keeps coming on to stink out the stadium and almost cost us the game.
Also next season we hope to have some good young signings to integrate and I also hope some of our excellent primavera guys are promoted.

The likes of Chaka and Cuenca should be given opportunities, so hopefully CDK is gone so they have room.
Mark my words, they will do much more than CDK

  5. “That is why a sale can be ruled out, because registering a capital loss is not something the management will consider.” Unfortunately bad signings do happen in this game. Luckily for us this is only the 3rd bad signing of this new era, wich is not bad.
We had mostly super good signings, such as mike, theo, etc.

  6. Only 18 minutes of play, who can show the talent himself??!! Milan will not redeem diaz, so next season will be CdK season. Calm and relax bro, time will come…

  7. And if he end up playing bad next season, how do you sell. Let’s also extend this favour to Adli. CDK is just not good enough. You can’t teach a professional basics.

  8. No club are willing to buy him next summer with stats 0 goal, i dont know what position he is good in pioli tactic . In brugge he play as striker but in pioli tactic striker must be strong and muscular. The best ACM can do are use him as swap card with striker

  9. Is it only me or do the guys give the ball to someone else rather than him? I have seen him open/in good position multiple times but the guys give the ball to someone else instead, even if they are i a tough spot.

His teamates don’t believe in him and that will break you down, his selfesteem is at rock bottom right now. But I would say give him another season, his first 4-5 games he showed his qualities. Once he has good confidence he will rip defence open with his vision. I have been through the same shit, he is burning inside just to prove himself at the moment. I moved to another town in the same country and that shit was hard…

He will deliver, give him some time. We can still sell him in January or next summer. It not like clubs are signing up for his signature…

It not like the whole clubs transfer window hangs on the money from his sale. We all know that Maldini will get 50mil even if we sell Theo and Leao. He will waste 50 on 4-5 players and one of those gambles will pay off. Thats how it has been thus far and thats how its going to continue…
