CM: Donnarumma the king of penalty saves in Italy in 2020 – work continues on his renewal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Gianluigi Donnarumma are moving towards finally securing the renewal of his contract, with discussions ongoing.

No one in Italy has saved as many penalties as Gigio in 2020. He saved four in total with three in the league (against Atalanta, Sampdoria and Lazio) and one in the Italian Cup against Cristiano Ronaldo.

His most recent one came against Lazio on Wednesday night and although the rebound went in, he showed intuition, timing and reactivity with his right arm.

As Calciomercato.com reports, Donnarumma is becoming more and more of a leader among the current squad despite being just 21 years of age. He is the vice captain, he always makes his voice heard in the silence of the European stadiums, and now we await his renewal.

The report adds that Milan and Raiola continue to talk to each other with optimism and confidence, with some knots still to be solved (such as a possible release clause to be included), but the will to go forward together is there.

Donnarumma publicly declared his intentions – “I want to stay at Milan, Raiola knows it” – and in early  2021 it will be time to put everything in black and white.
