CM: Final three games have an added weight as Pioli appears ‘tense’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are still licking their wounds for the double defeat in the Champions League derby against Inter, and Stefano Pioli might be looking at three remaining games to save his job.

According to Calciomercato.com, Pioli was ‘so tense’ in his pre-match press conference today on the eve of the game against Sampdoria that it is perhaps the most on-edge he has appeared this season or maybe since his first year with the Rossoneri.

The head coach feels and probably knows that these last three matches could be a watershed for his future and that of the club. While conclusions cannot be drawn until after the final whistle in the final game, the matches against Sampdoria, Juventus and Hellas Verona are huge.

A season that might be a 7 out of 10 with a Champions League spot earned and a run to the semi-finals could become highly insufficient without a finish in the top four.

Having a contract until 2025 is certainly an important factor for Pioli but ‘not a lifesaver’, which is why arriving at the end-of-season evaluations with fourth place in his pocket becomes fundamental also on an individual level, not only for Pioli but for Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara too.
