CM: Red hot form, agent in Italy – Jonathan David remains in Milan’s orbit

By Oliver Fisher -

The rumours about Jonathan David potentially joining AC Milan in the summer have resurfaced again after his agent made it known he was in Italy.

As Calciomercato.com recall, David ended last season with 26 goals and four assists in 40 matches played and that earned him links with some of the top sides around Europe. After a slow start to 2023-24, he is back in the goals and now has 23 (plus seven assists) across all competitions.

However, he has a contract expires on 30 June 2025, so the rumours are only becoming more and more insistent. A renewal with Les Dogues is to be ruled out, because David feels ready for the next step in his career.

Given that the Canadian will not extend his agreement, the Ligue 1 club will not grant any discounts and the asking price will remain close to €40m, with €35m a starting point. Furthermore, there is no shortage of competitors in Italy.

Milan continue to monitor his profile, but Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio – together with Zlatan Ibrahimovic – are also looking at other leads such as Viktor Gyokeres, Santiago Gimenez, Benjamin Sesko and, above all, Joshua Zirkzee.

The Rossoneri hypothesis cannot be discarded, given the expiring contract and the low salary (€1.68m gross per season), but there is competition: Juventus have been mentioned, while Napoli see the Canadian as the perfect replacement for Victor Osimhen.

Meanwhile, his agent was present in Milan last night. Nikos Mavromaras – founder and CEO of Axia Sports Management – showed that he was in Italy on his Instagram profile, yet the report adds that Milan have not met David’s agent to discuss a deal. Not yet, anyway.

  1. Exciting singing if it indeed happens, I know some people would say he is invisible for like 4-5 months every season but at a cost of 30-40M given our good relations with Lille he could be a good replacement for Giroud.

    1. If they sign David, let’s hope that the 4,5 months every season that he is invisible don’t coincide with the months when Leao is invisible.

  2. He is not the right profile to replace Giroud. We need a big number 9 who can be lethal in the box, which David is not…

  3. Maybe only one here but I’d take him over Zirkzee any day. David, penalty merchant or not, has a proven record over years. Zirkzee costs a ton just while scoring just 10ish goals in Italy, so not super sold on him.

    1. Proven track record in france… Yet united rather dropped 75M on another striker then get David, with a proven track record for less. Chelsea went for Jackson. P$$$G bought 2 for 160M from ger and por rather than get David. Nobody has shown any interesed in him over the years, i have to wonder why.. His stats indeed are good.

Even Lepzig didnt go for David, they bought Openda for 40M and it was the right call.

Whats the hard on for David for some of you people?

  4. Not sold on him. David resembles Okafor. Zirkzee something between Giroud and Okafor. If replacing Giroud then Boniface, Scamacca or Šeško come to mind first.

Media are just feeding us with names but we don’t even know what Pioli is looking for up front.

    1. Ted, the only other guy on these boards who sees Scamacca. I’ve pointing Scamacca out. I would be using CDK to negotiate his price down, not Scalvini’s (although I’d take Scalvini too). There are more options at CB than striker.

      1. he is 2 injury prone. thats why he cant get into rhythm at atalanta and thats why he floped at aston. plus i doubt atalanta would sell a ST they just got. And to a “rival”

      2. I’ve also been saying last summer they should go for him when he wanted return to Serie A. He’s a good striker and right now could be most affordable with CdK included. I’m sure he’d fit right in 4231 playing a s lone striker instead of two up front system.

  5. Dont forget guys. Club in Milan not only ACM , there is chance he will go to ACM neighbour replace marcus thuram ( sell for capital gain like they did with onana)
