CM: Jovic provided chance for immediate redemption while hunting for renewal

By Oliver Fisher -

Luka Jovic had a rush of blood to the head on Sunday night in Monza which will cost him the chance of playing in the next two league games, meaning that an instant response is needed to begin making things right.

Calciomercato.com recall how Jovic’s stock has certainly risen since the end of last year as he has five goals plus one assist in the league, in addition to a brace against Cagliari in the Coppa Italia and a handful of points collected thanks to his late goals off the bench.

The red card on Sunday means he will be suspended for the games against Atalanta and Lazio in Serie A and so tonight – due to the logical management of Olivier Giroud’s minutes – another opportunity arrives for the Serbian.

Jovic is still looking for his first goal in European competitions with the Rossoneri having played for just half an hour in the Champions League games against Newcastle, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.

Even in the first leg against Rennes – which Milan ended with a comfortable 3-0 win at home – there was no sign of the former Fiorentina and Real Madrid striker. Tonight, that will change and he will have an opportunity for immediate redemption.

A good performance and a goal would push him closer towards a renewal. Jovic’s contract with Milan is worth €1.3m per year in salary and expires in the summer, but the management have the possibility of extending for another three seasons, from year to year.

In practice it is up to Giorgio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio – in agreement with the coach – to decide whether to move forward with Jovic or not.

It is important to contribute on the biggest nights, therefore, while Milan could speak with his agent Fali Ramadani about a renewal with an altered salary and changes to the one-year clauses.
