CM: Kessie set for Keita-esque role under Rangnick; Milan aim to build midfield around him

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will build their midfield around Franck Kessie even with the probable arrival of Ralf Rangnick as new manager, a report claims.

As Calciomercato.com notes, Gianluigi Donnarumma was the Man of the Match for Milan in their 0-0 Coppa Italia semi-final second leg draw against Juventus, a result which was not enough to qualify.

However among the other impressive players was Franck Kessie, who put behind the difficulties related to his return to Italy from Africa and the speculation regarding his future to send a strong signal to Milan regarding his future.

Even at a man down due to Ante Rebic’s red card Milan managed to boss the midfield in Turin in large part due to the tenacity and energy of Kessie and his midfield partner Ismael Bennacer.

For the future, Ralf Rangnick tends to prefer a 4-4-2 formation and there is always room in the midfield for a player with the characteristics of the Ivorian, as seen with the likes of Naby Keita, Amadou Haidara and Diego Demme (now at Napoli) at RB Leipzig.

Kessie will reach 122 appearances for Milan against Lecce, but his future is already decided. The Rossoneri midfield will be rebuilt with the departures of Bonaventura, Biglia and probably Krunic and Paquetà already fixed, but it will not concern the former Atalanta man.

Nobody is unsellable for Milan in the face of ridiculous offers, but in the absence of huge bids the club continue with Kessie and build around him.
