CM: Leao ready to take on the challenge against Rebic – background on the offer from Wolves

Stefano Pioli will soon have an interesting selection dilemma on his hands as Ante Rebic is closing in on a return to action.

As Calciomercato.com notes, the numbers for Rafael Leao so far in the 2020-21 Serie A season tell the story of a player clearly driven to prove he can be decisive. Across four appearances he has two goals and three assists, notching two of the latter in last night’s 3-3 draw with Roma.

Leao is looking increasingly comfortable in the role of left winger in the three behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and that gives Pioli a headache because before that Rebic was the undisputed holder of that position, and by the end of the week the Croatian will be back.

In the post-match press conference, Pioli said: “Saelemaekers is growing a lot, but also Castillejo, we miss Rebic, Hauge was doing very well and will give us satisfaction like Brahim Diaz. It is good that we have raised the level of these roles because we raise the competitiveness, I have many choices.”

Pioli knows that the correct course of action is to choose the best solution now, and that those who are not in his XI will get plenty of opportunities to show what they can do given that the team are playing twice a week normally.

As an interesting background on Leao, just a few months ago they rejected an offer from Wolverhampton Wanderers as the player has repeatedly said that he is happy at Milan and wants to make it as a star at San Siro.
