CM: Maignan’s form worrying for Milan as defensive record worsens

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan conceded two more goals during last night’s game against Frosinone, and a report has claimed that Mike Maignan is getting beaten too early.

As Calciomercato.com report, Milan showed good character to come from behind at the Stadio Benito Stirpe on Saturday night as Luka Jovic netted a winner inside the final 10 minutes, with third place further consolidated.

Rafael Leao no longer scores and shoots very little, but he is not the problem of this team when it comes to star players pulling their weight because Maignan has not been up to his usual level.

In the game against Udinese there was obviously the racism incident which would affect anyone, but he still conceded a couple of goals and the second one he should have stopped.

In the next match against Bologna he was beaten by a Joshua Zirkzee shot that went between his legs, and last night Mazzitelli scored in a similar way.

Milan find themselves in third place in the standings, in theory in the race for at least second place, but the second-best attack in the league is not enough when combined with the 11th-best defence in terms of number of goals conceded.

Inter have conceded 10, Juventus 13 and Milan 27 up to this point. With numbers like that, even finishing third is perhaps a positive.

  1. I’ve said it before since Mike Maignan got a mysterious injury during the World Cup season that Milan should cash in on him. He’s on a steep decline and it makes no sense to pay him the 7-9m salary he wants.

David De Gea is still a free agent and he is only 33yrs old. We should cash in on Mike Maignan and get De Gea on a free transfer.

If we can get 60m for him that would be great since we won’t have to spend it on a new keeper. It would be a huge mistake to renew Mike Maignan at the salary he’s requesting.

    1. 😂😂bro hasn’t watched David de gea the last 2 years. There’s a reason why he still isn’t with a club. He’s not good anymore and washed also have u seen how many errors leading to goals he had for Man U the last 2-3 yeaes

  2. With his contract situation, the money he is asking, the injury history, his from, cash in this summer on Maignan and buy Di Gregorio from Monza.
He was standing on his head again yesterday vs Udinese.
You can even lower the cash amount by inserting one or maybe both Colombo and Daniel.

    1. Keep Mike, but IF he goes I think Di Gregorio is a good choice. Musso is interesting too, one year left and now behind by Carnesecchi.

  3. I personally don’t think we should sell Mike just because of a patch of bad form. But In the meantime he needs to pick up his form. Or we need to start Sportiello.

  4. Mike is still a great GK. If anything, Furlani needs to use the current form to renew Mike at 5mil and not the 8 he is requesting.

  5. I don’t think they should sell him unless the player pushes for it. He’s had a few mistakes but still making plenty of good saves. The problem really is the way our back 4 has been so smashed by injuries this season. That coupled with not really having proper CDM players in the double pivot roles with Bennacer mostly absent.
Any keeper will eventually give up chances if they keep getting peppered with shots.
