CM: Training confirms that Milan are pushing Saelemaekers out – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

Alexis Saelemaekers is seemingly heading for the exit door but AC Milan are yet to receive any concrete offers, according to a report.

As Calciomercato.com report, that image of Saelemaekers dribbling past the Napoli defence and scoring the goal to make it 4-0 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona back on April 2 now seems like a distant memory.

The signings of Christian Pulisic, Samuel Chukwueze and Luka Romero have pushed him to the fringes of Stefano Pioli’s plans, and this was proven during the preseason friendly campaign in which he only got a few substitute appearances.

Now his position is ‘on par with that of Caldara, Ballo-Touré and Origi’ as per the report because he is training aside from the first team squad, which indicates that he is no longer a central part of the plans.

His departure will depend a lot on the bids that arrive from abroad. Milan have him under contract until 2026 and paid €10.9 to sign him when factoring in loan fee, but to date there are still no concrete offers.

In recent days Besiktas came forward with an enquiry aimed at testing the ground before a real attempt. Proposals are awaited, and now the idea of a loan with option to buy is beginning to gain momentum too.

  1. 20-25 million. End of story. We can’t be cheapening our players regardless if we want them to leave. Saelesmaekers is still pretty young and did play a fair amount fairly well.

    1. Transfermarkt put his value at around 15, and considering we’re actively pushing him out, I doubt there will be offers in the region of 20-25M.

      1. I do not believe that Milan are pushing him out, just rumors, personally I would keep him around, it looks as he is well liked in the squad and does give his all.

Unless we can get around €20m, he should stay.

  2. I’m a bit worried why he is not kept as RB, his original position? Surely, if Milan is not signing anyone there, he could compete with Calabria, not least Florenzi?

  3. The biggest problem, and we’ve seen this already in previous seasons, is Pioli’s incompetence to find players true and best position on the pitch. We had Leao when we arrived, played strictly ST when we obviously didnt like it there, Origi, Rebic and so on…
Thats just a tip of it. I really think that he would be our best option for RB, especialy if anyone recall time when we played 3 at the back and him on that RWB role. Our best wide player(apart from Leao) at that moment.

      1. I hope ur joking cause if your not then you judge players performance based on FIFA stats and position. Football aint video game.

  4. Unless it’s a great offer 20-25M (which will not happen this summer) I don’t get why we are so adamant about getting rid of him especially when we have Calabria/Florenzi as our RB’s and both constantly get injured. Strange. Should have taken Singo when we had the chance but it’s gone now. But for Sales he is what he is – a great player to come off the bench and defend a lead. Nothing wrong with that considering we paid 7m for him. He never was and is never going to be a starter for a big club – he’s not that talented. But he is an extremely hard working team player capable of playing multiple positions and always sacrificing for the team – those are solid players to have around imo.
