CM: Milan want to sign a defender with loan formula – Spurs man tops wish list

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are keen on reinforcing the defence ahead of the season opener, scheduled for August 13, and they have a few targets in mind. As for the formula, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have a clear idea.

The Rossoneri have been in tough negotiations with Club Brugge for the signing of Charles De Ketelaere recently but as an agreement has been reached, they will be able to focus on the defence. There are two players in particular that have caught their interest.

According to Calciomercato.com, Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga remains the primary target and talks have already taken place with his entourage. The player has given preference to Milan and talks are now ongoing with Tottenham.

Spurs have agreed to the formula, a loan with an option to buy, but there is no agreement on the figures yet. Therefore, Milan are also keeping tabs on Abdou Diallo of Paris Saint-Germain. He’s expected to leave the club this summer and the Rossoneri are considering him, for now as an alternative though.

  1. Prepare for the endless articles about “Milan want to sign a defender, PSG and Spurs duo most concrete” and “Renato Sanches the primary target for the midfield, Chukwuemeka remains an open opportunity”

    1. Just because the player’s entourage offer the player to Maldini doesn’t mean Maldini want to sign him.

Remember, last season Milan stared the season with 4 CB (Kjaer, Tomori, Romagnoli, and Gabbia) and ended the season with 4 CB (Tomori, Kalulu, Romagnoli, and Gabbia). Right now Milan have 4 CB, so no reinforcement needed. There is World Cup midseason but it doesn’t matter because only one of them (who might actually lose his starting place at Milan) is a guaranteed starter for national team participating in the World Cup.

      1. I agree with Yelnats24 here. I’d say spend the money elsewhere (RW?) and get a (soon-to-be-)world-class CB next year. Then we’ll know if Gabbia has what it takes and what is the status of Kjaer. In theory he should have a couple of good years ahead of him but you never know.

    2. Worst case, Milan can wait untill winter window, who knows if Redbird bring money for transfer after the deal is closed.
