CM: Milan must buckle up and spend to compete – De Paul and Vlahovic perfect

By Isak Möller -

Milan secured their return to the Champions League on the final matchday of the 2020/21 season, putting an end to seven years of disappointment. However, now they need to prepare for what will be a tough season.

As Alberto Cerruti highlights in his latest piece for Calciomercato.com, Milan need to demonstrate their intentions with signings. If the Champions League is just a starting point for the club, then evidence is needed to prove this.

For example, besides the old age of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, bringing in Olivier Giroud will hardly solve the future aspect. Neither will it be such a significant upgrade, as the journalist continues. The right man could thus be Dusan Vlahovic instead.

In addition to the Serbian, Rodrigo De Paul would be a great addition to this team. Sure, the €40m have put Milan off a bit, but spending is needed to improve the team. That is, of course, unless you just go for youngster labelled as ‘talents’, also known as gambles.

Securing Champions League qualification is worth around €50m and the Rossoneri will also be able to offload a few players this summer. Therefore, Elliott Management need to show their true colours and invest in this perfect moment.

  1. Splash the g’damn cash already! It’s time in CL for 7 years, ffs!

    CAM: Vlašić
    RW: De Paul
    ST: Belotti / Vlahović

  2. Those two players would cost more than a €100m and that’s without considering midfield or defensive needs. They’d need to guarantee winning the UCL for that investment…

I know Milan will get a bit lucky with FFP breaks because of the pandemic but, unless they’re planning to sell Bennacer and Hernandez which would defeat the point, that’s a surefire way to both run up huge debts and risk any sort of financial stability, possibly earning more bans from Europe in future.

Time to improve scouting and player development instead of trying to buy finished articles IMO.

  3. Yes I absolutely agree we definitely should buy these 2 players BUT I don’t think we are gonna spend 100M on 2 players unfortunately…there is a reason names like Papu Gomez, Giroud and Pezzella are being mentioned…cheap vets. Ok as depth options, but we need starters. Ikone, De Paul, Vlahovic, Milenkovic, etc..and some young talent like Adil, Longkongo, Molyenko, Etc….BUT it won’t happen. Have a feeling we will be a bit disappointed this summer. I Pray I am wrong
