Mike Maignan

CM: Milan stay fixed on nine-figure price as Bayern consider Maignan move

Bayern Munich have received some bad news regarding Manuel Neuer which could see them try for Mike Maignan, according to a report.

Calciomercato.com confirm reports from Germany which have suggested that Bayern Munich are looking for a keeper who can solve a difficult situation, which started with the sale of Yann Sommer to Inter.

At the moment Thomas Tuchel can only count on the 35-year-old Sven Ulreich who has just 9 appearances in the last two seasons, because Neuer has sustained an injury that may yet require surgery.

The management of the Bundesliga side hope to solve the issue in the next few days and they are looking for a starter-level goalkeeper who can potentially be the heir to the 37-year-old Neuer.

At the moment Kepa Arrizabalaga of Chelsea is an option being explored, but Diogo Costa of Porto and above all Mike Maignan of Milan are on the list two as per Bild.

Calciomercato.com report that the French goalkeeper is untouchable for the Rossoneri and it is difficult to imagine that he could leave in the next 20 days, unless a colossal amount is offered.

Back in May, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara asked for €100m when Manchester United enquired, and now with Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada the figure is the same.

  1. Just in the extreme wild case that they offer 100mil and Maignan leaves, who will we replace him with.
Maignan is a big part of how Milan plays currently

    1. No one can, his play on the ball, solid hands, driven leardership traits, incredible diving and solid positioning will not be substituted. Certain level of players leaving can’t be substituted or replaced, their game can’t be replicated nor the total package they offer.

That is why it took us 10 years to replace Ibra, with guess who…that helped us win again…Ibra.

      Same for Thiago Silva.

You always loose when you move out generational talents.

Tonali, Kessie, Hakan are still not replaced. We have no one on set pieces, that can play offensively and defensively very well from midfield, nor anyone with precise passing skills with set piece abilities since those previous players left. They may not be at the level of Ibra etc, they are levels beyond our budget to purchase suitable replacements though.

Just see our first few games, we are predictable and out of sync, lacking finishing, aounds exactly like the same story before Ibra came back or when he got injured.

Some players have intangible with their combination of skillsets that make them invaluable. Rebuilding chemistry and trying to make up for what they do just isn’t possible without 2 to 3 year adjustment time if you find a suitable player to replace them.

Too much squad turnovers to save wages cost us in every other way possible.

      1. True. Have to agree with this. Plus it’s the turnover on the starting lineup that’s concerning though we finally have an RW and his name is Romero jk 🤣. Hope Chuk does we’ll but who knows maybe Romero might be the one to snatch the starting spot instead.

      2. He also gets injured way too often for a goalkeeper and misses months at a time each season. You may want to factor that in to the equation.

      3. Exactly.

And to replace a player of his quality you’d need to spend…..the same amount (or multiple amounts that add up to the same amount over years with the added benefit of chaos).

  2. Time to cash in 😁
Sport is a good sport lol. He basically ticks two boxes, the homegrown and analytics. I was surprised how he compares out to Mike on some stats. He actually is solid

    1. You have lost your marbles. You really don’t know anything. And who are you comparing Mike to? You can’t even name who.

Unlike other players, keepers are as expensive as strikers. We don’t have a replacement.

    1. I see you started crying in a news that may not even be real, do you need a napkin?

200M and sell him why not?

We lost dumbarumba for free, which management would you prefer to have

      1. Are you posting from an alternative reality where Milan did not in fact win a Scudetto under Maldini, and that in a large part was helped by the players who were forced to see out their contracts like Kessie?

    2. How many players did Maldini lose for free? Hakan, Kessie, Donnarumma, etc. Currently Milan aren’t a selling team. But we know when to sell. Maldini didn’t.

      1. He made the players see out their contracts (shocking concept I know that people might be forced stick to their contractual obligations).

It is a simple fact that we won the Scudetto and we did so with Kessie, and without Donnarumma and Hakan.

We can only speculate what would’ve happened had we sold these players for whatever imaginary millions are in your head and still won the Scudetto without Kessie.

But your imagination Donald Trump’s reality so there’s not much we can do about that.

  3. Real Madrid also lost Thibaut Courtois today with torn ACL.
Let the action between Real and Bayern begin.
Milan would be crazy to pass on an offer of even 80 mil.
That would make Maignan the most expensive GK ever.
Plus, the best ability is your availability. It doesn’t matter how good you are if you are not available to play. And Maignan has missed 7,8 months because of injuries in 2 years as a Milan player.
The same thing goes for Bennacer. If the rumor about the Saudi interest is true Bennacer needs to go. He is also mostly unavailable.
You gotta be smart here, not sentimental.

    1. There are some offers you simply can’t turn down. Tonali’s was one of those. Pretty sure at 100+mil, Milan would cave in.

      1. The issue is that it is preventing Milan from building what needs to be a 10 year plan to reach the levels of Man City, Real, Bayern and others.

And we will spend that money, like we did with the Tonali money on multiple new signings which will lead to even more chaos.

    1. Wah wah wah wah wah wah

Do you guys ever stop crying? No, not everyone is for sale and since we can’t replace Mike, it’s clear he’s not on the market.

        1. The only schizo here is you. I can’t imagine being stupid like you and actually trying to function society lmao. How do you even function without running into a door or a wall?

          1. All you do is bash everyone and call people stupid on this blog. And you ask how I function in a society?

I feel sorry for you, you seem a really lonely guy who craves for some attention. I see you posting comments and then replying to yourself cause no one here wants to deal with you and your toxic cr*p.

            Poor little man.

  4. Mike isn’t on the market, guys. Doesn’t matter what happened to Real or Bayern.

There isn’t a replacement for Mike on the market. So that’s the difference between Mike and Tonali.

  5. I hope he stays, but we only paid around €15m for Mike, so I’m worried that Redbird would accept an offer of €100+ mil.
It would be more difficult to defend this sale, than that of Tonali, though so they better have a plan. Maybe if they make an official bid for someone like Osimhen or Mbappe they can say “Hey, at least we tried for a big name”.

  6. So, unlike some other people here, I think 80-100m for a GK is almost an offer you can’t refuse. GK is generally recognized as the most easily replaceable position in football. Of course, there are world class goalkeepers that are irreplaceable and who guarantee a certain amount of points per season on their own, but outside of that clubs can source good enough goalkeeper replacements.

In fact, all three of Milan’s greatest squads, those of the 1960s, 1988-1994 and 2003-2007, played with goalkeepers who were very good, maybe even great, but not world class. The likes of Ghezzi, Cudicini, Vecchi, Galli, Seba Rossi, Dida and Abbiati were all very good, but none of them could compare to Schmeichel, Buffon, Casillas, Kahn, etc. And believe me, I have a soft spot for SuperSeba. I watched him save a penalty against Parma in 1999 at San Siro to preserve the 2-1, in a game he was playing after having lost the starting spot to Abbiati. The Sud went absolutely nuts (look it up on youtube). He is a record holder, but still not “world class” in his own right.

For 100m you could spend 40m and get a very good replacement, and then spend 60m on getting that world class striker that we’re obviously missing. The improvement to the side overall would be palpable. But keeping Mike has its merits too. He’s a great GK, has leadership skills, is good with his feet, etc., all the reasons people note. SO, the question is: is Mike world class and if so would it be worth letting him go for the opportunity to improve the squad overall? If he isn’t world class then it’s a no brainer, we should accept anything above 80m without thinking.

Honestly, I don’t know what I would prefer.

    1. Well you could say the same about nearly every position….

What all those players you mentioned had in common was they stayed at the club for a long time, which built the familiarity which is absolutely essential to being a top side.

That familiarity is far more important than some completely arbitrary rating people like to give players.

Bonucci is a terrible defender but because he played alongside Chiellini for a decade he formed part of a world class defence.

The teams we’re trying to catch have been together for years.

Bonucci has been at Juve for 12 years (which was broken up by his disastrous spell at Milan).

Benzema was at Real for 14 years.

De Bruyne has been at Man City for 8 years.

Verratti has been at PSG 13 years.

Every time we press the reset button it puts us YEARS behind where we need to be.

It’s got nothing to do with ability.

  7. Then name who we can replace him with. It’s not the 1980s or 1990s when teams played with sweepers and goalkeepers had less attention.

Name someone as good as him we can find. I will wait.

    1. That’s the thing. I’m saying “adequate” replacement, not “as good”. Maignan is a great GK. We definitely won’t find anyone “as good” this summer, and if we do, whenever we do, it will probably be someone we take at a young age who grows into a top GK.

My point was that you can maybe find a good GK, not as good as Maignan, but good enough, AND find a much better striker than the ones we have now, for the money received from Maignan, which would result in an overall improvement of the squad, even if it is a “downgrade” at GK. Mind you, I’m not hoping Maignan is sold, I’m saying there are serious pros and cons to both options.

Who are the “good enough” GKs that can replace Maignan at a somewhat lower level? Here are some ideas:

Giorgi Mamardashvili, 22, 25m (and playing for cash strapped Valencia)

      Marco Carnesecchi, 22, 13m (Atalanta)

David De Gea, 32, free (good for a couple of seasons while we unearth the next Maignan).

      1. If for one reason or another Maignan is sold, I can only think of a name that might be adequate enough yet won’t break the bank; Bono.

The thing is Maignan is arguably top 3 ball playing goalkeeper in the world right now. We probably can’t just replace him with just a good shot stopper (such as DDG) but can’t distribute.

  8. True mike is should be untouchable but @Giancarlo, @ted is right about you, you love to seek attention and if no one reply your comment you keep on replying your own comment, you need to touch grass

  9. It was a huge mistake to not cash in on Dunnarumma, especially given how poor his distribution was. We shouldn’t pass on a chance to make $ with Maignan but he’s more like $125m…

  10. Well there is nothing we can do as fans to prevent mike sale if owner want but atleast make it world record for GK transfer fee . Worst case ? It will be hard to find GK replacement with just 11 days left for first match serie A . Real madrid want to find GK too so there will be auction between RM & BM

    1. Yes there is something we can do as fans.

We can stop accepting that it’s normal for clubs to transfer thousands of players every few months, stop demanding this constant string of new signings, and start showing the tiniest amount of patience and loyalty to the players who actually play for our clubs.

Owners, agents, directors, and the media wouldn’t get away this crap if fans weren’t the ones demanding it.

Look how excited you get about the thought of a world record for GK transfer fee!

Who cares about a world record fee! That’s got absolutely nothing to do with the game of football. Nor does what this player is worth, or what that player’s “growth value” is or whatever crap people talk about when it comes to the transfer market.

Football is what happens on the pitch. The transfer market serves the sport not the other way around.

      1. Im not AC Milan owner and nothing i can do to opposed this sale. But they are stupid if sell mike without break world record transfer fee for GK . If i have money , i will buy ACM and keep mike but we are living in reality. If Real madrid or bayern muenchen come with 100m euro offer this owner will accept that maybe you dont care about world record fee but that owner dont care about you . too.
