CM: UCL exit does not change Milan’s plans to make three January additions

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan may have exited the Champions League at the group stage but that will not change the plans to welcome at least three new arrivals during the January transfer window, a report claims.

According to what is being reported by Calciomercato.com, qualifying for the Europa League represents a little sugar to sweeten the disappointment of having been eliminated from the Champions League but it will not change much with regards to the transfer plans.

Milan’s European campaign has brought in revenues of €46.4m so far and dropping into the Europa League requires high competitiveness in two competitions (plus the Coppa Italia too). This is why the Rossoneri management will not change their plans in the winter transfer window.

Two central defenders will arrive and, in all likelihood, a striker as well. The first space will actually be occupied by a player who will return to base in Matteo Gabbia who is on a season-long loan at Villarreal. Jakub Kiwior of Arsenal, Konstantinos Kourielakis from PAOK and Maxime Estève from Montpellier are in the running for the other central defender position.

The discussion regarding the new reinforcement in attack is more complex because Luka Jovic’s growth could lead to more far-reaching considerations, perhaps postponing the attack until next summer. The feeling is that of a management attentive to the opportunities that the January window, like Serhou Guirassy who would cost €17m.

  1. With Jovic now starting to purr and Okafor back, is this really the right move to get a striker? Ultras there’s an utter gem to be had

Kiwior is a great move in my opinion, I want us to hold out for Scalvini in the summer

    1. Indeed. Do we need an off-form David to bring nothing to the table? Nope. Or a half-a-season-wonder? Nope. Fix the more immediate holes first.

  2. Do we really need a stop-gap striker? Jovic is a reliable poacher and Okafor has real potential. It would take a take a big $ signing to bench them and Giroud. And we know this team won’t make a big $ signing..

  3. I dont think Guirassy would leave Stuttgart to play a potential second fiddle at anywhere.. And Milan cant guarantee first ST role

    1. You Know what, I kinda love Calabria. Sometimes you watch him and think how on earth did this guy make it pro, he’ll air kick a clearance or something , but other times he shuts down some of the worlds best players (Mbappe, Kvara). He loves to be in a battle and that’s a good quality to have. Last night at the end Anthony Gordon turned him inside out and then back again, but at the last moment Calabria got a foot in and stopped him..he also loves the club….I don’t think he’s out best player but he’s far from the problem imo

  4. I guess Furlani wanted justification to spend in January this time around and he got it, albileit in Europe’s second rate competition
