CM: Milan prioritise ‘Made in Italy’ transfer strategy due to squad list issue – the situation

The AC Milan management are ready to enact an Italian-led recruitment policy to help ease some of the worries related to the squad lsits, a report claims.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan will plan for the upcoming transfer windows with an ever more attentive eye on the players who grew up in Italian youth teams and even within the youth sector of the Rossoneri.

Analysing the current squad and the one that could be available for next season,Milan are already looking at having four empty slots when it comes to homegrown and academy graduate players, a number that could even grow at the end of the year.

In both Serie A and the Champions League, there is the requirement to have four players who came through an academy of any Italian club and four who came through the Milan youth sector, and there are certain qualifying requirements for that too (Alex Jimenez, for example, doesn’t count).

Davide Calabria and Matteo Gabbia are the only two players who came through the Milan academy, then Marco Sportiello and Alessandro Florenzi (both of whom have been absent all season) came through other clubs in Italy.

Filippo Terracciano, Lorenzo Torriani, Kevin Zeroli and Francesco Camarda are under 22 and therefore do not count, while Calabria’s situation is still up in the air given that his contract expires at the end of the season and there are no plans to renew it, at least not at the figures he is asking for.

The same situation applies to Florenzi, who – in addition to the cruciate ligament injury that is keeping him out for almost the entire season – also has a contract expiring at the end of the year that will not be renewed unless there are surprises.

This is why Milan today more than ever will be forced to look at a ‘Made in Italy’ transfer policy. The priority will have to be to acquire as many players as possible, regardless of nationality, but who have spent at least three years between the ages of 15 and 21 in the youth sectors of Italian teams.

It works the other way too: if Geoffrey Moncada and co. insist on signing players from abroad they will have to offload players in order to not worsen the situation.

Who are the candidates to join? The same source reported last night that Fabiano Parisi and Giuseppe Pezzella are targets for the deputy left-back role, while Samuele Ricci keeps being mentioned as a name for the midfield.

  1. Should have thought of that before…

Also what a way to negotiate!

Hi, we’ve run out of Italians, and we’re desperate to sign some, we’d like to sign one of yours????

    1. That’s a way to make sure teams don’t give you a discount. Serie A teams will know we desperatly need Italians and thus won’t give up their players for a cheap price.

      1. If we are attempting to sign the best Italian players in the league, this strategy will likely backfire. I don’t believe they are pursuing that approach. It seems more probable that we will sign players similar to Cataldi.

    2. This is why the renewal saga with Calabria is so odd…..even if he gets relegated to the bench,.he’s still a viable option and also homegrown. They HAVE to sign 8 players either home or club grown anyway so why not just use him 🤷‍♂️. Baffles me

    3. It’s tricky to be honest. There arent that many “Great” players and those that are somewhat very good, are overpriced.
It isnt hard to see, Tonali was sold for a lot, last window arguably the best italian CB was sold to Arsenal for a lot. It’s not that we dont want to, it’s that it’s easier to find better deals elsewhere. I do believe our futuro players will give Italy a good crop of players soon.

      1. This stupid theory has been debunked so many times. Just as an example Calafiori was offered to Milan for 5mil. Then they could have got him for 15mil mid season when his form picked up. Both times they chose to pass on him. Further you can find pleanty of Italian players on the same level as Emerson Royal for example and they would have costed less. Foreign players are not better deals. If you want good in form foreign players you will still need to pay good money same as for Italian in form good players.

  2. I’ve said this before and will continue to say it. There is no way Jeff and George even have all the contant info for all other 19 Serie A Clubs. At least not a direct line/contant. It’s been confirmed they use agents to negotiate with teams instead negotiating directly. How did the Kalulu deal happen so quickly? Guintoli.
How did the Royal happen so slowly and even at all? Jeff and George.

Nobody takes him or Milan’s front office seriously. Cant lock down primary targets with “years” of scouting them (lies).

The Emerson Royal purchase and willing to help Juve with a creampuff deal for Kalulu alone
should be fired and made to sign an NDA.

Absolutely no way to run a business especially a world class football club.

    Personal opinion
Jeff & George should be fired. Dudes are clown and shouldn’t be supported at all. Not even worth spitting on.

    1. Not arguing with the premise of your argument, but people are way over reacting on Kalulu. He wasn’t good enough at CB with us, and also doesn’t fit the attacking RB profile we are looking for. Not to mention his constant injuries.

He had a few good games with Juve. Big whoop. I’m sure De Sciglio also had a few of those as well.

  3. Sell- calabria, chukawueze, jovic, and bennacer if anyone wants him
Buy- ricci, skov Olsen, de cupyer, Tiago santos, and maybe frendrup, and nico Paz (all rumored)

  4. They did not realise anything, there was similar article few months ago. On how they are going to sign Serie A players and Italians now that growth decree was put aside. Nothing happened.

Forget about the likes of Ricci and Casadei. Best case, they’ll be looking for bench Italians, deputies to our already mediocre team of foreigners. Because they need to somehow drive their value up after wasting nearly 200 millions on them but it’s not really going as planned. Fonseca’s making sure of that.
