CM: Milan snub Wolves and Dortmund interest in winger – Maldini’s choice explained

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are now unlikely to sell winger Rafael Leao and instead will continue to bet on him for the coming season, according to a report.

Calciomercato.com reports that even if the market does not close until 31 August, the chances of seeing Leao leave are close to zero. A number of clubs came forward to express interest such as Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton and Borussia Dortmund, but they did not submit offers up to par.

Nonetheless, Paolo Maldini’s choice is strictly linked to the field, as the 22-year-old is considered unique in the squad given his pace and explosiveness. Maldini believes Leao has not yet expressed all his potential, and that a third year at Milanello after two years of adaptation and growth may be the decisive one.

The signing of Giroud to play with Ibrahimovic shows that the Rossoneri have made their choice regarding Leao’s position, and Jens Petter Hauge will be sold for important capital gain. Maldini has chosen to give him another chance, expecting continuity and consistency, otherwise the excuses have begun to run out.
