CM: Pioli and Inzaghi meet again – the precedents bode well for the Inter coach

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Inter will square off for the fourth and fifth times this season in the upcoming Champions League semi-finals, with Stefano Pioli and Simone Inzaghi doing battle again.

The Rossoneri have lifted the Champions League trophy seven times in their history, with the Nerazzurri on three, but Calciomercato.com writes how history counts for very little in the games that will take place next month.

Inzaghi has the better of the head-to-head clashes against Pioli, with nine wins to five for the Milan boss, with the last one coming back on February 5 in the league when a goal from Lautaro Martinez was enough.

That came not long after the blue side of the city celebrated a 3-0 triumph in the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia, while earlier in the campaign a Milan win came last September as Leao scored a brace in a 3-2 win.

Two derbies in six days will decide who meets the winner of Real Madrid and Manchester City. The last derby with such high stakes came back on 5 February 2022 when a Giroud brace completed Milan’s comeback as they won 2-1 at a crucial point in the Scudetto race.

The two teams last faced each other over two legs in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals last season too, when the first leg ended 0-0 and the reverse fixture finished 3-0 to Inter, who managed to make the final and then win against Juve.
