CM: Pioli aims for podium numbers but must overcome Milan’s April taboo

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan have a big opportunity to further cement their spot at the top on Monday evening as they will face Bologna at home. In addition, it’s a chance for Stefano Pioli to achieve podium-worthy numbers.

The manager has been in charge of the Rossoneri for a total of 99 games and the clash against Bologna will be his 100th. In the three-points-per-win era, he’s the Milan coach with the highest average points per game: 2.04 per match.

Furthermore, a win against Bologna would increase this season’s tally to 69 points from 31 games. At this point of the season in previous years (in the three-points-per-win era), they have only done better twice: 70 points in 2005/06 and 76 in 2003/04.

However, as highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Pioli will have to overcome Milan’s April taboo to get on the aforementioned podium. Last season, the Rossoneri claimed just 7 out of 15 points and the season prior was even worse at 5 points. The pattern even goes back several years, but Pioli is now aiming to change this.
