CM: Alcohol ban and extra officers – police prepare for Inter Scudetto derby win

By Oliver Fisher -

The results over the weekend have now made the equation simple: if Inter beat AC Milan in the derby in one week, they will be crowned champions.

As Calciomercato.com report, the situation means that the Prefecture and Police Headquarters are already taking action to try and make sure there are no breaches of public order in the event that Inter do clinch the Scudetto.

Despite the non-violence pact between fans of the two clubs, it would never have been tested quite like this before. The ultras groups are not what worries police necessarily, but rather the idea that a single spark could light a fuse.

The Committee for public order and safety will meet at the beginning of the week in the Prefecture: it will be chaired by the prefect of Milan, Claudio Sgaraglia, who will meet the representatives of the police forces and the Nerazzurri management.

The areas of the city in which to concentrate officers will have to be decided, but also and above all the precise route of any open bus. The first day chosen for the bus from San Siro to the Duomo would be Tuesday 23 April, the day immediately following the derby.

What if the victory in the derby doesn’t come? Inter will ask to play against Torino in the next round in the afternoon, so as to be able to do the bus parade immediately after the game, and to have a party into the night.

While awaiting the final details of the plan, in addition to the hundred agents normally expected for a derby, another 100 agents have already been pre-warned and will be deployed in the areas considered most sensitive.

The local police will instead have to close some streets around the Duomo, and control the sale of alcohol in certain neighbourhoods, with a ban expected in some areas. Milan will have to play a lot better than yesterday to prevent a nightmare scenario.
