CM: Rangnick could be key in Milan’s pursuit of France U21 star; Liverpool and Man Utd lurk

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are interested in the idea of signing RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, a report claims, but there are two major hurdles in their path.

The Rossoneri could be set for a rearguard revolution this summer as doubts remain over the futures of Simon Kjaer, Mateo Musacchio and even Alessio Romagnoli.

Milan have been repeatedly linked with Upamecano over the last few months and the rumours have intensified alongside speculation that Ralf Rangnick – the current Head of Football for Red Bull – could be joining Milan as head coach and sporting director.

According to the latest from Calciomercato.com, the possible arrival of Rangnick could open up – just as transfer source Louis Girardi recently claimed – but there are two obstacles to overcome.

The first is the valuation that RB Leipzig have placed upon the player, and the second is the competition of top English clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United.

A fee is not mentioned, but it is widely reported that Upamecano has a €60m release clause built into his deal which becomes active this summer.
