CM: Stefano Pioli ready to count on versatile wide man again next season

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are looking to strengthen their squad in the summer window but development is also expected from some younger players within the squad.

Calciomercato.com writes how Stefano Pioli will continue to count on Alexis Saelemaekers, who joined from Anderlecht as an unknown quantity of sorts but has imposed himself as an immovable fixture of the starting XI, at least based on last season’s choices.

His work rate and adaptability allowed him to take his place as a permanent starter and his ability to adapt to multiple roles on the pitch is a factor on which Pioli is counting on in view of next season. He has played as a right winger, a right-back and even in other attacking position.

Of course the transfer market can change things and a lot will depend on who Samu Castillejo is replaced by, if he leaves, so for the coach it will be essential that the Belgian guarantees a high level of performance. Given that he is just 22 years old though, the hope has to be that he continues to develop.
