CM: Time running out for Atalanta as they look to discuss De Ketelaere deal

In recent weeks, Atalanta have stated they wish to re-discuss the terms of Charles De Ketelaere’s deal with AC Milan, and a recent report has suggested they are running out of time to do so.

La Dea’s interest in signing the Belgian permanently has been clear for some time, and it is understandable why. When he arrived in Italy, the attacker did not hit the ground running – he probably stumbled, and his confidence fell.

The route forward was then a loan, with an important option within to buy the player at the end, and Atalanta have an interest in doing so, but they do not want to pay the €23 million which was previously agreed.

Instead, they would like to renegotiate the deal, with their interest remaining clear and the player also shares this interest. However, as reported earlier in the day, Milan are not looking to lower the price at all, given they are already close to selling him for a capital loss.

As Calciomercato.com explains, his net worth at the end of this month will be €22m, so selling for less than the clause would result in a loss.

If the Bergamese club would like to have De Ketelaere with them next season, they will have until June 14 to inform the Rossoneri of their decision because the terms will change after that date, the report states.

  1. Just keep him, then? May be Fonseca can capitalize on talent instead of the management focus on avoiding a capital loss.

  2. Don’t sell him at a discount, I’m pretty sure after his good season we can sell him for a higher figure to PL, or we keep him but in no way at a lower price. We made a mistake by letting him go because Pioli couldn’t get him up there , let’s not do a second one by selling him for cheap.

    1. This idea that EPL clubs have money to throw around needs to stop. The PSR rules prevent that from happening.

  3. His current market value is higher than 23 million not sure what Atalanta want lol. They never sell us players for cheap and expect us to always do so.

    1. Heck, if Atalanta don’t pull the trigger we might even be able to sell him for a bit more than the agreed 23M to some other club.

  4. Highly doubt it, it makes no sense. His market value is higher now compared to when they got him, Atalanta know this. I’d understand if they wanted to restructure the deal and pay in installments, maybe even willing to add some extra bonuses for doing so.
If not we know teams like arsenal are interested or we could even use him ourself.

    1. In what formation? Fonseca will employ 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. It’s clear CDK plays best off of another striker in a two-striker formation, so he still doesn’t fit with us.

      1. According to transfermarkt this season he played:
        30 matches as CF
        13 matches as CAM
        5 matches as SS
        1 match as RW

Btw really wish we would go back to 4-3-1-2 and drop this winger bs already

        1. Well done on the stats. We still won’t use him as CF though, as Atalanta’s system still seems to enable CDK to not have to be a target man. He won’t achieve the same results playing a true no. 9.

Nothing wrong with the “winger BS”, since most of the other top clubs use wingers, including City, Liverpool, Arsenal, PSG, Madrid, Barcelona, CL finalist Dortmund (and I’ll say Villa, who may not be a “top club” but play with a certain style). Seems the only clubs of note that don’t fancy wingers are Leverkusen and 3/5 Serie clubs that qualified for the CL. Oh and Spalletti (Napoli/Italy) likes wingers too.

          1. Agree. If you want to use 4312 you need really strong fantatista CM’s and CAM like Kaka and pirlo or seedorf. Our current midfs doesn’t even worthy one of them. Not even a good DM to shut down opponents wingers. We used to have Ambro and Gattusso for that role.

        2. > After 10 years Milan finally has strong wingers (Leao+Okafor, Pulisic+Chukwu)
          > Fans: “drop this winger bs already” 😂

  5. If they don’t have enough capital to buy him, bring him back, we have a striker for less than anything we had been quoted. They better not give them a cent or give them any less. I prefer he return honestly, never agreed with noy trying him as a striker for an extended period in the first place.

  6. The loan deal has played its role:
    1. CDK was able to play under the guidance and assurance of a respected youth-oriented coach and was rewarded with an European trophy rather than suffer the depression of being benched or worse.
    2. Milan can retain him while the incoming coach go get Gasperini”s manual on how best to optimize the kid’s potential to our favor.
If not, let the kid go to where he was able to find his voice again.
    Forza Milan!

    1. Well, Fonseca seems to be good with youth too
CDK may still not work out because our winger-focused system
4-2-3-1 blows and wish we would get rid of it

    1. That was too high for scamacca. Atalanta just buy him last season 20m euro. If Lookman maybe good at 30m euro + CDK

    2. I love Scamacca since his Sassuolo day, but 30mil + CdK is surely too high. Looking at his age, CdK has more potential to get doubled, even tripled, his current value.

  7. It would be the same thing we did to Chelsea when we purchased Tomori. They want to lower the price even if the chances are very small, they will end up buying CDK for the price they originally agreed to.

    1. The role Tomori had was well covered in that Chelsea. We have a big hole in CDK’s position. He can still be useful and i believe with the right coach he will flourish in Milan. Worth trying to keep him

  8. We should start shopping him now if Atalanta is going to play games. He’s surplus for Milan IMO but with the season he had and his age, I’m sure they can find a buyer for €20-30m+

  9. They need to either pay up or we need to pull him and sell to the Premier League. Weren’t Atalanta under obligation to buy?

      1. Well the loan was a bit expensive anyways so there was some gain there, but based off his performances he should be redeemed without question.

Since his value has gone up, we can easily get 35-40 million now. Might actually have worked in our favor. Afterall he did play for the team that won the EL and pushed 3 pass Leverkusen.

        1. The loan fee was 3 mil. He costed us 36.5 mil, contracted for 5 years. His depreciation (without including his wage) is 7.3 mil (annually). So 3 mil loan fee for a year is not that expensive if we’re looking on the book.

The option to buy left us no control over our own player. Atalanta looking to let the deal expire surely to get a better deal. Have to say it’s pretty weird strategy as CdK performed excellent, unlike Tonali when we did similar thing to get a much lower value as he didn’t perform well.

I just hope that the current management has a firm stance on this matter.

  10. Well, Atalanta knows that buyout option they have is already a steal. But they also know that Ketelaere’s profile doesn’t fit to current Milan, and also Ketelaere prefers to stay at Atalanta. So that’s why they want to play these cards to lower the price tag even more.
