CM: The truth about Lille’s resale percentage as Milan slap hefty price tag on Leao

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are working to extend the contract of Rafael Leao, who has been an important player for the Rossoneri this season. The current deal will expire in 2024 and a few suitors are probing the situation.

The Portuguese winger has found the back of the ent 12 times this season (all comps), assisting an additional 7 goals. In short, he has been a key player for the Rossoneri and it’s not exactly a surprise that they want to keep him.

The renewal talks have been far from easy, though, and a move in the summer perhaps shouldn’t be excluded. As was reported by MilanNews a few days ago, a big offer has arrived for Leao from abroad and Milan have made it clear that they want at least €70-80m.

The high price tag is not just for the performances, but also because Lille have a % on a future resale. Some have said it’s 15, others 20, but Calciomercato.com are now reporting that the real number is just 10%.

  1. Unless he says he wants to leave I don’t think we should sell right now. If he is worth 70M now imagine what he would be worth after another year of seasoning and playing with a real RW, ACM and young striker. Sky is the limit IMO. If Oshemin of Napoli is worth 100M – so is Leao…All of this talk about Mendes searching for offers from other clubs abroad is normal and considering his unique situation wherein Leao currently owes 16M unless his appeal is successful, it’s not surprising he is seeking more money per season than the 4.5M we are currently offering him – because if he loses his appeal – he would essentially be playing for free for the next 4 seasons…nobody would do that (including any of us fans) no matter how much they loved their club/job. We must be patient and see what happens after May 16. Then things will be much clearer with Leao’s true intent. Until then it is all speculation and Mendes is just doing his job. Patience is needed IMO.
