CM: Two injuries and two suspension risks – Milan heading towards a defensive crisis

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is once again left juggling a lot of injuries and possible disruptions to his defensive department.

The Serie A season will officially get back underway for the Rossoneri as they make the trip south to face Lecce on Monday night, but they will make the journey without the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic – something which creates problems for Pioli.

As Calciomercato.com notes, he also has some problems to contend with in defend. Mateo Musacchio will undergo surgery on his ankle next week meaning he will be out for a prolonged period, while Leo Duarte has also not yet recovered fully from injury.

That means Pioli will be forced into using the Kjaer-Romagnoli pairing – not necessarily a bad thing – but Matteo Gabbia is the only reserved centre-back available.

There are also disciplinary situations to keep an eye on, as Romagnoli would automatically be disqualified for the game against Roma at San Siro if he were to pick up a yellow against Lecce.

The same applies for Kjaer, who has already collected four yellow cards across his time at Atalanta and Milan.
