CM: Why Milan are considering ‘breaking their pattern’ to hire Conte

By Isak Möller -

Antonio Conte’s name has been gathering steam in relation to AC Milan’s managerial pursuit, with Stefano Pioli expected to leave after the season. Although hiring him would change the project, there are a few reasons why it might happen.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Conte has gone from a distant idea to a possibility in a short period of time. The 54-year-old would like to return to Italy and Milan are looking for a manager; anything can happen in between.

Although hiring Conte would be ‘breaking the pattern’ of Elliott Management and now Cardinale, as the report continues, there are three reasons why it could happen.

Milan’s recent struggles

This hasn’t gone unnoticed by anyone, with Milan struggling on the injury front as well as in big games. As a result, the project that was set up has never really taken off on the pitch, even if the Rossoneri have made great strides off it (sponsorships etc).

Conte, meanwhile, would come in with a clear playing style and he would not let any player disobey him. Not to say that Pioli allows this, but he has admitted that he lets his players decide a lot. Perhaps Milan need someone strict, with clear ideas to guide the youngsters.

Ibrahimovic’s opinion

It’s no secret that Ibrahimovic has set his eyes on Conte, wanting a manager who will do everything to win. The Swede has placed the 54-year-old at the top of his wish list, in fact, having always appreciated his character and mentality. The two men are similar in that sense, it goes without saying.

Now a senior advisor for Milan and Cardinale, the weight of Ibrahimovic’s words should not be underestimated. He will be present with the American for Milan-Roma tomorrow evening, and the duo are bound to discuss the future of the club.

Perfect challenge for Conte

For Conte, it would be the perfect challenge. He wants to prove himself in Italy again and Milan have a great foundation with the likes of Maignan, Tomori, Theo Hernandez, Bennacer, Reijnders, Pulisic and Leao. One of the best foundations in Italy, in fact.

The manager has worked wonders with less prominent players before and he would certainly know how to elevate their qualities. Then again, everything will depend on how much he’s willing to concede market-wise, having often demanded high-profile players in the past.

  1. Because it’s easier to run with a messiah complex than it is to see something through (even if that something is just about to realise its potential.

    1. You mean be a coward, accept lesser players and take the blame because of management in the end? Only weak minds can allow that. This is why Ibrahimovic doesn’t like cowards and wanta Conte.

  2. Everyone knows at first the team will have a leap in mentality, but honestly we lacks a diverse technical ability, which always shows up when the first months of euphoria ends, and both technical and tactical abilities are need to move the team forward, another danger is he will discard the young and good players in the club, we need a new coach who is young, has modern ideas, and is not afraid to use young players.
By the time the club is not willing to go on a mad shopping spree, Conte will know bring out his petulant side…

  3. I like how we lose one game and all these (same) articles pop up like its the end of the world and tomorrow a bald head will roll.. 😀

If ti hasnt by now it wont until the end

  4. If “high profile” means getting Vidal for free instead of Tonali for 35-40M ok. Conte always asked for players ready to contribute, the price never mattered…

  5. Conte is the Answer. I want to win. Conte.. really stabilise juventus and inter.. impacted them with winning mentality.. I need conte.. weather ppl talk shoftvabout him or not.. all the coaches with out big club experience I don’t want the to use mikan as experiment. I have seen and had enough of them. I rest my case now.

    1. @Ancelotti. Totally agree. Milan need a coach with a strong mentality and discipline. I believe he will do well at Milan if the club gives him the “type” of players that he wants and they don’t have to break transfer records to do that.

  6. Why can’t we hire Mourinho.. If Roma could afford him, I bet we can too.. And he achieved a trophy with Roma squad, then he will do better with us

  7. Conte is a gamble in the sense that we don’t know what players he would alienate… For his project to work, he would need everyone to either buy in or ship out.

He plays a 3-5-2. Having Leao and Theo on the left would be problematic in that it would lessen their strength/speed down that side for example. So if Leao isn’t effective in Conte’s plans, do we offload him? (I mean we’ll offload him eventually)

    Big questions.

  8. “It’s no secret that Ibrahimovic has set his eyes on Conte, ”
How do they know this??? Like how do they know Ibra wants Conte and not tbat he’d like to see Pioli do the job 🤷‍♂️

  9. Conte stays in one club for 1-2 years. Is that what the management want? I guess it could fit in their “build a stadium and sell the club”-agenda well but he us EXPENSIVE and DEMANDS EXPENSIVE players, so… I doubt they’ll choose someone else. And hope they do too. He’s not good enough. Pioli beat him 100-0 in UCL last season with far inferior squad.
