Sergio Conceicao reflected on the difficultites of coaching AC Milan at a recent event, highlighting why everything has been made more complicated by the mid-season aspect.
Taking over a club mid-season, often in a difficult situation, is a tricky job for any manager. Conceicao was hired at the end of 2024 and only had a few days to prepare for the Supercoppa Italiana, a tournament he went on to win.
Since then, however, the tenure has been filled with difficulties and at the Coimbra Football Congress 2025 event, Conceicao reflected on his adventure so far. Among other things, he stated that not having picked the players makes implementing his style more complicated.
“I knew the difficulties I would encounter. I didn’t choose the players, I had no time to train and there was an obligation to win. However, it’s a historic club that can give me the opportunity to get closer to one of the objectives of my career, after having won so much in Portugal,” he stated.
Conceicao certainly makes a good point as another pre-season would have been needed to see proper changes, but it’s also true that he has made some strange decisions. Focusing on the core of the team would have been the logical step, but the identity remains a bit uncertain.
Mister, you have the opportunity to show that you are a coach worthy of Milan. Choose 11 warriors who will accompany you until June. You have no more excuses. If you are sabotaged, submit your resignation immediately after Napoli and say which of the players, board members sabotaged you and go like a gentleman, and let Milan hire an Italian coach and bring all the Italian players and let the journalists be happy.
It’s always a bad sign when excuses are forthcoming like this, how do they players feel reading him saying this, if Of course he did say IT!!!

Our problem in AC Milan now is very diverse first we need a coach who the players want to please a coach that has continuity in making sure everyone is trying their best to please him on the field,no coach has been able to Do that in a while, conceicao did it in the Coppa Italia when he was new but something has made the players withdraw from him if you need to win then you need a coach everyone wants to impress, then secondly football is in an era where you need quality by spending, let’s hope soon we have a new owner who is ready to spend, not too much but when we need it without hesitation…
we should keep our coach, he’s got the “gritta” to push Milan, he only needs to adapt to what his got from inheriting the team…. Ancelotti plays with different system and plays different formation according to his opponents or players available… he should evolve his tactical game! u cannot stick to 1 system! you play according to your players ability!

Pioli brought the best out of Leao and Theo, cause he played according to their strength!! every coach plays to accomodate Messi or Ronaldo ….. they know that these players will give them results if they help them to play their best football
