GdS: Contest between Kjaer and Kalulu to partner Tomori in Supercoppa final

By Euan Burns -

There is a battle ensuing between both Simon Kjaer and Pierre Kalulu to see who will partner Fikayo Tomori in the AC Milan defence for the Supercoppa final, a report claims.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, it seems that Tomori will be starting for Milan but his partner is not yet known.

The two obvious choices for Stefano Pioli are Kalulu and Kjaer. The latter has only recently returned to fitness after a spell on the sidelines, but his experience could be valuable in the cup final against Inter.

Kalulu is perhaps the more established partner of Tomori now given the serious injury that saw Kjaer miss a large chunk of last season.

Kjaer has only played 10 times this season and is certainly not as fresh as Kalulu so many expect the Frenchman to be the starter against the Nerazzurri who could welcome Romelu Lukaku back from injury.

  2. Kalulu and Tomori are a key part of our tactical set up because they allow us play a high line and keep the pressure up. So if we’re to play Kjær we’ll need to be drop deeper which will hand the initiative to Inter.

    1. Kajer also pays a high line – they all do. Kalulu is best at RB which Malidini always knew and wanted and why he went after Botman and why we continue to be linked with more center backs like Kiwfor (polish kid)

  3. @ Juro He’s not got the same speed. One of Kalulu’s main characteristics is his recovery tackles. Kalulu and Tomori were essential to our run in last season.

    1. All the opponents know that Milan’s greatest weakness is crosses into the box (ATM at least). How much did Tomori’s & Kalulu’s pace help when Torino scored their winner? None. Pace isn’t everything. But at the moment Milan needs Kjaer to control the air in the box. Kalulu is incapable of that. Neither is Tomori.
