CorSera: All change at Milan after Rangnick U-turn – Maldini and Ibrahimovic could also stay

By Oliver Fisher -

It has been all-change for AC Milan in a dramatic last 24 hours as Ralf Rangnick will now not arrive as the club’s new manager.

It seemed all agreed for the German to arrive and oversee yet another summer revolution, but after Tuesday night’s win over Sassuolo the club announced instead that Stefano Pioli has signed a new deal that will see him stay as Milan boss until 2022.

According to il Corriere della Sera on Wednesday (via MilanNews), the excellent performances since the resumption of the season convinced Elliott and the CEO Ivan Gazidis.

Although contacts with Rangnick had been going on for months, the management decided to suddenly change direction and give confidence to the current coach. Results are not the only reason though, as in fact it was also the great feeling that was created between Pioli and the players.

Rangnick explained through his agent that this is not the right time to move to Milan, who instead focuses on continuity and on a project that has already started.

With the non-arrival of the German and Pioli’s confirmation, the fate of Paolo Maldini and Zlatan Ibrahimovic could now also change: it is not excluded that the two may now decide to remain with the Rossoneri too.
