CorSera: Change expected in the way Maldini and Massara operate – the details

By Oliver Fisher -

There could be a change in the way that AC Milan’s management and technical area is structured over the summer, according to a report.

According to Corriere della Sera (via SempreMilan.it), Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara could well remain even if Milan fail to reach the top four in the table as well as head coach Stefano Pioli, but something will change.

What could alter is Maldini’s autonomy on the market, and instead he should work more closely with Giorgio Furlani and Stefano Pioli in order to improve the effectiveness of new signings given how disappointing the last summer transfer campaign was, with only Malick Thiaw a success so far.

The upcoming summer mercato will also be a test of the ability of Maldini and Massara to sell players given that Jens Petter Hauge and Leo Duarte are the only real examples of players who left and returned a decent figure.

Selling is an essential condition also for fleshing out the budget considering that Milan have been self-financing for several years now.

This is seen in the fact the Rossoneri had the highest net spend of any Italian team last summer, but the sixth-highest overall spend.

  1. This implies that Maldini does things on his own..I highly doubt that. These owners have shut down transfers in the past including Botman which was Maldini’s original transfer that he wanted but couldn’t get. He had the vision to see that the defence still lacked and boy was he correct based on how this season turned out
