De Ketelaere Milanello

CorSera: De Ketelaere heads to Atalanta in search of redemption – deal worth over €20m

AC Milan and Atalanta have finalised a loan deal for Charles De Ketelaere and his medical should take place soon, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan) writes how De Ketelaere’s move to Atalanta will be finalised either today or tomorrow, meaning that his time with the Rossoneri will be interrupted after one season.

The 22-year-old arrived for over €30m from Club Brugge and he played 40 matches across Serie A (32), the Champions League (6), Coppa Italia (1) and Supercoppa Italiana final (1).

He failed to score a goal despite having netted 18 in his previous season with the Belgian side, and as such a solution has been sought to try and get him some more consistent playing time.

De Ketelaere will seek a resurgence in Bergamo working under Gian Piero Gasperini. He will head to the Lombardy side on a paid loan which will be set around €3-4m, then there will be an option to buy active next summer for a figure of €20-22m.

  1. There are few problems with this deal:
    1) We don’t get any real money right now to go and spend, would have been better to keep him for depth and maybe he would have kicked on rather than make a direct rival stronger.
    2) We have not included a buy back option if he does star for them (albeit it will be up to the player to remain or return).
    3) Just seems a shame to see him go when the likes Origi, Adli, Mesiass, Balo-Toure and Florenzi are still there, you would have thought they would have been dealt with first.

  2. This is a good thing for all involved.

Gasperini and Atalanta are great at developing players. They get a chance to take on another real talent.

If CDK is going to realise his potential it’s not going to be at AC any time soon. Atalanta is as good a place as he could go.

We get a player we don’t want off the books and are a good chance of making enough of our money back.

  3. I am really glad to see CDK leave. The guy has no clue what to do when the ball is passed to him. He is by far the biggest mistake made by Maldini. One assist only, zero goals? I mean, even Gattuso seems like Van Basten when compared to CDK.
