CorSport: Donnarumma closing in on contract renewal – Milan’s stance on release clause

In recent months, there have been many rumours about the future of Gigio Donnarumma, who now looks set to remain at AC Milan. The goalkeeper, of course, will be an important player in the new youth project.

According to Corriere Della Sport (via Milanlive.it), the parties are getting closer to an agreement. Milan will present the official offer very soon and the decisive meeting with his agent, Mino Raiola, could take place next week.

Initially, the Rossoneri had hoped to offer Donnarumma a five-year extension but it looks like it will be a two-year deal. The offer will confirm the current salary, €6m per year, plus some bonuses that will depend on individual and team goals.

The release clause idea, though, is yet to be defined. Raiola wants to include one so that Donnarumma can ‘free himself’ in the event of no Champions League for the 2021/22 season. However, Milan are opposed to this idea.
