CorSera: Five battles that could be decisive in the Derby della Madonnina

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan and Inter will square off in the derby tomorrow and it’s an important game for both sides. The Rossoneri must stop the bleeding and bounce back with a win, which will depend on several key battles.

Today’s edition of Corriere Della Sera (via MilanNews) has analysed the probable starting XIs and has named a total of five key battles. First off, Onana vs. Tatarusanu is one to keep an eye on as the goalkeeping is always important in the derby. The Milan man has not had control of his defence and that needs to change.

On the flank, Calabria will be tasked with stopping Dimarco and vice versa. Both grew up in the academy of their respective team and in the Supercoppa, the duel was crucial as Inter came away with the win.

In attack for the Nerazzurri, Lautaro Martinez will once again be a key man and it remains to be seen if he can trouble Kjaer as much this time out. As for Milan’s attacking efforts, the Leao-Skriniar battle will without a doubt be decisive.

Finally, Tonali is the heart of Milan and must shine in the absence of Bennacer, in the centre of the 4-3-3 formation. Calhanoglu will replace Brozovic and that is no easy task, making the midfield battle interesting.
