The international break has not been kind to AC Milan in view of Saturday’s derby against Inter, with some doubts about the centre-forward role.
This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan) recall that Giroud came off in the 26th minute of the first half of France’s match against Ireland on Thursday night and has already returned to Milan.
There was no serious damage done, but the 36-year-old suffered a slight sprain in his left ankle, one which he has had issues with this year given it was the same area that he hurt during a battle with Kim in the Napoli game.
“I think I can be there in the derby,” Giroud immediately said after the game and the medical staff are trying (with a good chance) to get him back on his feet.
The real unknown, however, will concern his physical condition. Giroud inevitably will not be at 100% because if the time he will have to sit out, so back-up plans are being studied.
The first is Luka Jović, but he was signed from Fiorentina in the final hours of the transfer window and then immediately joined his national team, having still not trained at Milanello.
That is why Noah Okafor could be the solution. The Swiss international has been at the club a fair bit longer than Jović and he can be adapted into the role of striker if necessary.
